Job description
SciDev.Net is the world’s leading online source of news and analysis on science and technology for developing countries. The organisation aims to bring scientific evidence and technological innovation to the heart of global development practice through original journalism.
The Digital Project Coordinator supports the Head of Digital in implementing website and technical development projects, through scoping, project coordination and testing. They are also responsible for ensuring the smooth running of digital operations, including website, mobile and core business systems (e.g. CRM, Production Manager). They work closely with the organisation’s web and technical agencies. The post holder assists with the maintenance of the internal computer network via an out sourced IT maintenance provider.
The work will involve the following responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
Project manages website and technical development products, including scoping, project coordination, testing to support timely and successful delivery
Responsible for ensuring the smooth running of SciDev.Net digital products: including website, mobile, customised emails, content feeds, as well as hosting, third-party integrations and core business technical solutions (CRM and Production Management systems)
Responsible for support and maintenance budget with external agencies
Supports digital strategy, including SEO and site performance
Supports product developments through use of monitoring tools, including Google Analytics and other performance monitoring
Researches user experience and new trends, tools and opportunities in digital and technical products
Administrates SciDev.Net’s customised Production Management system (JIRA)
Produces and maintains online documentation and guides for digital and technical systems, and supports staff in their use through training
Supports the Head of Digital in compiling and reporting on statistics using Google Analytics, CMS, CRM, and performance monitoring tools
Answering technical queries from users of the website in the support@ mailbox
Assisting the Head of Finance & Operations with the administration of the internal IT systems and network, working with external IT maintenance provider
Providing support and occasional cover for the Digital Producer
The postholder will be expected to perform additional duties as reasonably commensurate with the role
Knowledge and skills required
Essential
Experience of project management and understanding of latest methodologies (e.g.Agile)
Minimum 2years’ experience of coordinating digital (e.g. website, mobile, apps) product developments and support
Experience in working with content management systems and understanding of HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
Knowledge of, and willingness to learn, best practise around content delivery systems, product development approaches, information architecture and user experience
Experience of Microsoft office and online collaborative software e.g. Google Docs
Resourceful and able to take initiative for troubleshooting technical problems
Good communication skills
Ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines under pressure
Attention to detail
Ability to work both independently and in a small team
Desirable
Understanding of web environments: i.e. development platforms, hosting, languages (such as ColdFusion, PHP, ASP, etc.) and databases (such as SQL)
Understanding of maintenance of internal computer networks
A broad interest in science and technology as it relates to the developing world
The individual will need to be flexible and prepared to undertake a variety of tasks with a “can do” spirit within a small team environment. Please note this is not a web developer/programming role, but we are looking for someone who is technically savvy. There are regular monthly deadlines to be met so an ability to work under pressure and retain a sense of humour is essential.
