IHOP 2006 Application Instructions

Selection criteria

The following are a list of applicant characteristics that are taken into consideration when evaluating an IHOP applicant:

1-Long-term commitment to working with underserved populations worldwide.

2-Prior experience working with underserved populations.

3-Prior experience in international health is preferred, though not required.

4-Demonstrated ability to work independently and creatively.

5-Foreign language proficiency.

6-Good academic standing

Application Process

1- Attend the informational meeting and Q&A sessions or videoconferences.

2- The IHOP Application MUST be submitted by e-mail to Daren Wade (), Program Manager, Global Health Resource Center, by noon on November 1, 2005.

3- A letter of recommedation (LoR) must be submitted as part of the IHOP application process by November 1, 2005. The LoR must be submitted by e-mail to to Daren Wade, Program Manager, Global Health Resource Center. It is the STUDENT’S responsibility to make sure that their recommender has submitted the letter by the due date. Failure to do so may result in an incomplete application not considered for summer 2006.

4- Once both your IHOP application and LoR have been received and evaluated, a subset of applicants will be invited to a 15 minute interview on November 14 and 15, 2005 (5:30-8:30pm) with members of the IHG Board and members of the UWSOM faculty. Students outside Seattle will be scheduled for 15 minute phone interviews at the above dates. Students seeking positions in Spanish-speaking countries may be given a second interview to determine language ability.

5- Successful applicants will be notified of their site placements at 12pm on November 21st, 2005.

IHOP Selection Committee

The selection committee consists of between 5-7 members and will be made up of UW faculty and members of the IHG Board.
