2. Project Concept:

The nature of this problem is the lack of general knowledge surrounding four main issues: Environmental, HIV/AIDS, animal treatment, and domestic violence. Blue Creek suffers from extreme poverty and a high concentration of HIV/AIDS in its population. Without sufficient education and awareness regarding these issues, citizens of this community are unable to properly protect themselves or future generations. Though it is difficult to determine the impact the public service announcements we produce will have, the hope is that, if nothing more, they will at least get the attention of the Blue Creek community and motivate them to get involved and become the primary facilitators of future change.

3. The Desired Ends

The primary desired ends of the project are to improve awareness and education in the Blue Creek community regarding issues such as HIV and domestic abuse. Because many people in the group have not yet visited Blue Creek, our understanding of the community is relatively limited. That being the case, another desired end is to create a positive working relationship between our group and members of the Blue Creek community so that Galen students could continue this project, or another one like it, in the future. If the public service announcements we produce are wide-reaching and well received in the area surrounding Blue Creek it would help to address the following three Millennium Development Goals:

3. Promote gender equality and empower women

6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases

7. Ensure environmental sustainability.
