Innovation and Leadership Institute presents the Fall 2010 Speakers Series

Fall line up at Capitol College focuses on women in engineering, and fraud and ethics in leadership

LAUREL – Capitol College’s Innovation and Leadership Institute will host two distinguished speakers this fall, focusing on topics such as women in engineering, and fraud and ethics in leadership.

On Monday, September 13, 2010, Dr. Andrea Razzaghi, a mission manager at NASA, will speak about her experiences working on the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR), part of the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) program, and discuss women in engineering.

On Wednesday, November 3, 2010, Rick Maltz, president of the Maltz Group, will cover the topic of fraud and ethics in leadership, a topic that carries heavy importance in both government and business throughout all technology sectors.

“I find this fall’s line up especially interesting considering the rise of women in engineering classes here on campus, pertaining to Dr. Razzaghi’s topic,” says Dr. Michael G. Gibbs, vice president for advancement. “Also, ethics in leadership is always a topic of interest for our students who seek to achieve success as technology leaders, and Rick Maltz’s background and experience shows he is a top authority on this subject.”

All Speaker Series events will be held in room L102 of the Puente Library at 12 p.m. Go to www.capitol-college.edu/ili for more information on these and more upcoming events.

About the Speakers

Andrea Razzaghi

Andrea Razzaghi is the assistant director of the Planetary Science Division in the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters, which advances scientific knowledge of the origin and history of the solar system, the potential of life elsewhere, and the hazards and resources present as humans explore space. Most recently, Razzaghi has worked in the Explorers Program Office as the mission manager for two astrophysics missions, the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE), which launched in 2009 and the Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR), which is currently under development for an early 2012 launch.

Razzaghi started her career first at a Navy consulting firm, and then at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center as an electromechanical engineer, where she contributed to a number of successful missions including the Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE), the Upper Atmospheric Research Satellite (UARS) and Cassini. She moved into Goddard’s project management organization in 1992, where she has held several key positions, most importantly as instrument manager for the Microwave Imager on the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) and as the observatory manager for the Earth Observing System (EOS) Aura mission; both projects are still operating and providing valuable earth science. She has also served as a senior policy analyst in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). Razzaghi’s educational background is in mechanical engineering, earning her bachelor’s degree from Brown University and her master’s from The Catholic University of America.
