Welcome back, National Honor Society members:
We are ready to start a new school year and we want it to be great for everyone. As members of the National Honor Society, your qualities of service, leadership, character, and scholarship are supposed to guide you in your everyday life, and our Chapter is here to help you with this very important . We wanted to give you some information that should help you throughout this year.

Please keep track of who your representative is so you can sign in during our meetings. Remember that our meetings are the first Tuesday of the month, unless otherwise stated. Attendance to the meetings is MANDATORY. If you cannot attend a meeting, a written excuse has to be given to Mrs. Rodriguez before the end of that week. These are the dates for this year, unless an emergency occurs:9/9 (exception), 10/7, 11/4,12/2, 2/3, 3/3, 4/7 and 5/5.
NHS membership dues are $5, due by the second meeting or earlier.
Your GPA for last semester has been checked and some of you are going to receive a notice of probation for one semester. If this is your second semester with a GPA below 3.5, your case will be presented to the Faculty Council which will decide your future in the chapter.
The Faculty Council is a group of five faculty members in charge of selection of new members, analysis of probationary notices, and expulsions from the chapter. We are in the process of revamping our selection of new members.
As you know, service is probably the most important quality that all of you should have. You are required to complete ten hours-points per semester. Five of these points must be obtained by participating in NHS sponsored events. The signatures of supervisors for non-NHS events are required.Mrs. Rodriguez, supervisor of NHS events, keeps track of all the activities and points awarded, but you are expected to do it too. The forms attached are for both semesters, and you need to turn them in by the deadlines indicated. Now, how do you get points? Well, there are so many ways, so many activities. Here is a few ideas:
-Campus clean-ups
-Attendance to meetings: only 1 point for all meetings of a semester
-Academic Booster Club membership: 1 point
-Eagle to Eagle tutors
-Beef’s Spirit Night: these are once a month and required for you to turn in your receipt to Mrs. Rodriguez within a week of the Spirit Night. Very important: buy more than just a drink. This money ultimately goes back to you in the form of awards.
-Holiday Families: includes buying gifts, wrapping, and delivering
-Help with the Induction Ceremony second semester
-Collections of cans, candies, gift cards, money, etc… for different events like Adopt A Platoon, Paraprofessionals Recognition Events, Cafeteria Staff Breakfast, and many others.
