Frequently Asked Questions

Q) Why are we changing the skirt?

A) We have a long standing issue with the length of skirt that some girls choose to wear. It is a daily battle trying to address the problem. The skirt that we are suggesting will only be sold in appropriate lengths and is not replicated on the high-street.

The skirt is very much in keeping with the College’s standards and expectations as we continue on our journey to become a ‘Centre of Excellence’.

Q) Why are we suggesting a change in blazer colour?

A) The skirt is a slightly different shade of blue to the current blazer and we are, therefore, offering the black blazer as an alternative, as part of the consultation process.

Q) Why can’t we source a skirt that matches the current shade of blue of the blazer?

A) We have tried to do this but, there isn’ta suitable alternativeavailable. We could have bespoke skirts but these would come at a premium and we want to continue to offer an affordable uniform to all.

Q) What are the cost implications of the proposed changes?

A) The blazer cost will remain the same irrespective of colour. The new skirt is £1.50 – £5.00 more expensive than the current ‘Charleston’ skirt from Skoolkit (depending on size).

Q) What is the proposed timescale for implementation?

A) We will implement the uniform change on a phased basis as follows:

September 2018
Year 7 will wear the new uniform. Outgrown items for other year groups should be replaced with the new uniform.

September 2019
From this date, the new uniform will be compulsory for all pupils. All pupils will be expected to wear the new skirt or current trousers. A blue or black blazer (should black become an option) will be acceptable.

Q) Can we still buy the existing items from Skoolkit?

A) We have asked Skoolkit to hold sales until this consultation concludes. Once the consultation concludes, Skoolkit will only sell the new uniform.

Q) Can girls still wear trousers if they so wish?

A) Yes, as long as they conform to the uniform policy.

Q) My child is eligible for Pupil Premium. Does this cover the cost of the uniform?

A) Yes, as is currently the case. However, PP only covers the specified skirt or trousers.

Q)Will the black blazer come with the same reflective strips as the current blue blazer?

A)Yes, this will be standard on our blazers, irrespective of colour.

Q)My child is tall/petite and we are worried that the new skirt will still be too short/long on her?

A)The new skirt comes in a variety of waist sizes and lengths, therefore, taller girls will still be able to purchase an appropriate skirt. A shorter lengthwould also be available with our agreement.
