Your Weekly Update from Lonsdale Elementary School and the LPT
Friday, September 27, 2013
NECAP Testing will begin next Tuesday, October 1st for students in grades 3-5. Please refer to the notice that came home today in your child’s backpack for recommendations that will help your child be more prepared to do well. You can also help your child with problems in preparation for NECAP by looking at the “PAWS and Reflect” section of the weekly SPOTS, and helping your child with the problem. (See today’s problem).
Open House was a great success! Thank you to all who attended. Mrs. Magliocco’s presentation will be posted on the school website.
The LPT would like to extend a big Thank You to all the families that participated in our Cristoline Fall Fundraiser. Notification will be sent out once the items arrive at school.
Planning for our Family Halloween Dance on Friday, October 25 is underway. With all the great ideas generated at our first meeting it is sure to be a SPOOKTACULAR evening! Please join us for the next planning meeting on Tuesday, October 8th at 7pm at Lonsdale. If you are unable to attend, but would still like to help, please email Ally Gordon at .
Our Smencils Fundraiser was such a hit that we SOLD OUT in only 3 days! Do not fear though, more Smencils are on their way for sale at other events. Check back here next week for the new sale dates. These awesome pencils are being sold during lunch/recess time and are just $1.00 each. Thanks to all the students who have already purchased them.
**Costume Drive** As you gear up for Halloween this year, please think about helping others enjoy the tradition of dressing up. The Lonsdale community has partnered with Foster Forward to collect new and gently used Halloween costumes. These costumes will be distributed to foster families. Costumes may be sent to school up until Friday, October 4th.
Your LPT has scheduled another Restaurant Night for Wednesday, October 16th (new date) at The Lodge right here in Lincoln. Keep an eye out for the special dining coupon coming home soon via backpack.
It is never too late to send in your Parent Paw Pledge. Your support makes possible so many of the activities that make a lasting impression on the students at Lonsdale. If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, a background check is required. BCI checks can be done at the Lincoln Police Station 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They are free of charge and do not need to be notarized. Although the deadline for background checks was set for September 13th, they will be accepted as they become available. Please submit your form to Mrs. Magliocco as soon as possible.
Box Top Summer Collection Drive is coming to an end! Collection baggies marked with student's name, teacher and grade must be sent to school by next Monday, September 30th.
There will be a class prize as well as two individual prizes for the most Box Tops collected.
This is the last Chance to purchase your Duck for the big race! The 5th Annual Blackstone River Duck Race will take place on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 1pm. These adorable rubber yellow ducks will be released in masses into the river for an amazing race down the Blackstone River.
This year’s festivities will kick off at 11am where there will be food, face
painting, a bouncy tent, a rock climbing wall and much more at Hope Global
(50 Martin Street, Cumberland).
For $5, a sponsor will have a chance at winning one of over 50 great prizes, including the Grand Prize of $2,500. For each duck certificate sold, Lonsdale Parents and Teachers (LPT) will receive $2.50! This money is used to fund programming at Lonsdale Elementary School!
Please ask your families, friends, neighbors and co-workers to sponsor a duck. Complete the order form and return it to your child’s teacher; include checks made payable to LPT. Duck sponsors must be 18 or older (please make sure they are registered to a parent or guardian if they are not). Duck sponsor certificates will be completed and returned to you through your child’s backpack. Each certificate will have a number that belongs to one possible lucky duck. Sponsors need not be present to win. All order forms must be turned in to Lonsdale Elementary School by Friday, October 4th. Thank you for your continued support! Good luck to all the ducks!
