Team 7S! -Can You Meet the Challenge?
It's that time of the year again when PJ's Products, Inc. is looking to Team 7S to help add another student-created snack mix to its product line. Last year's creation was a hit with consumers of all ages and generated $1.2 million in retail sales in less than six months. With PJ Products, Inc. donating 10% of the net profit back to the community, those proceeds help tosupport the Four Paws No-Kill Animal Shelter, Waynesboro Clothes Closet and Food Bank, and the Burke County Retirement Home for Former Educators.
Now it is your turnto get recognized foryour creative abilities indeveloping and advertising a new snack mix, so we cancontinue receiving monetary support for ourlocal worthwhile organizations.
Before you begin with your prototype, you will need to understand what all is incorporated into developing a product, and the advertising techniques needed to market your product. Think about a snack mix you eat. How can you make it better? The following are resources to utilize for this task: 1) the Internet; 2) print ads; 3) TV commercials; 4)actual snack mixes; 5) company websites; and 6)friends and family for information/opinions.
The Performance Task:
To develop and advertise your snack mix, you must complete the following steps:
1.Create a snack mix product
- Determine the taste you desire (sweet, salty, nutty, sour, crunchy, etc).
- Select four to five ingredients that you think will mesh well together as far as taste.
2.Brainstorm ideas for the name for the product (Make it original)
- Remember to make it catchy and easy to pronounce.
3.Develop a slogan (Make it original)
- Think about the product name and ingredients when brainstorming.
- Remember, this slogan must appear on the box and in the advertisement.
- The connection to the product must make sense.
4.Design the box/bag/containerfor the product
- Use blank paper to draw images and position the wording before finalizing this task.
- Determine what you liked and disliked abouteach drawing and the words.
- Make a decision of what should be on the box/bag and where it should be placed.
5. Research advertising and the use of persuasive techniques
- The product is now ready to go. Next, is the question of "How will you advertise your product?"
- As you arecreating theadvertisement, you will need to consider the demographics (age, gender, specific target group, or for all people, etc.) for your product. Advertisers tend to think of consumers not as individuals, but as members of groups that tend to believe, behave, or purchase in certain patterns.
- Decide which persuasive techniques to use in the advertisement. Refer to your worksheet in your Unit Two notes.
6.Create a persuasivepresentationfor the PJ Products' executives using technology (Prezi, Google Slides, or PowerPoint, etc.) or printed materials (poster board, tri-fold, etc.).
- Create a list of the things you want to be sure to mention in your advertisement (cost, target consumer, health benefits, local support, ingredients, persuasive technique(s) chosen, etc.)
- Use graphics, pictures, illustrations, color, and different fonts to bring attention to your ad.
- State why a customer should buy your product and not your competitor’s product.
DUE DATE: Oral presentations will take place on Thursday, December 8th. Be Creative and Have Fun!
