Job Description

Background:The Audio Visual Technician, Sound is a demanding and varied role within the Technical Services team supporting the Audio Visual Technical Operations Manager based within the technical workshop with some site working.

Job Purpose:To prepare and maintain AV equipment to an excellent level with a focus on our sound inventory, it’s preparation, first line maintenance, and programmingready for events.

Main Duties:

Planning and Administration

  • To attend the daily morningtechnical workshop briefing meetings to:
  • Receive your work schedulefor the day and week(s) ahead
  • Discuss logistics deadlines, loading/unloading times
  • Discuss supplier deliveries and collections
  • To give feedback on any areas of work that may require extra time/resource to deliver when required
  • Toupdate the AV Technical Operations Manager with progress of work
  • Check logistics sheet regularly to ensure you are aware of vehicle movements
  • Check departmental planner regularly to ensure you are aware of technical services projects not covered by the logistics sheet
  • To operate Hiretrack NX to:
  • Print equipment lists
  • Check equipment resource availability
  • Stock in equipment when returned from site
  • Stock out equipment which has not been returned from events
  • Enter faulty equipment into the service book when required
  • Communication:
  • Regularly check and respond to your Pb email account
  • Answer the workshop telephone when required and give assistance to callers
  • Take telephone messages and ensure they are actioned
  • Communicate with all Pb teams to ensure we work efficiently together and support each other
  • Communicate with our team of freelance engineers to:
  • Get feedback on equipment selection
  • Get feedback on equipment preparation
  • Discuss any issues with equipment on site
  • Discuss ways to improve our equipment offering
  • Discuss new trends and techniques in equipment usage

Equipment Preparation, Loading and Checking Back In

Pre-Event

  • Check through prep sheets prior to preparation of equipment for each event to:
  • Check for any items which may have been missed from the prep lists
  • Check for any items which are not suitable
  • Identify any sub hired equipment and if this needs to be integrated with the load at Pb or is going straight to site
  • Feedbackon any items which are missing, unsuitable or anything on prep sheets you are unsure of to the Audio Visual Technical Operations Manager
  • Identify and mark an area within the store where the prepared equipment will be collated and checked prior to loading
  • Locate and select equipment on prep list
  • Visually inspect equipment for damage
  • Test equipment to ensure it works correctly and is fit to go out on the event
  • Program any settings required into equipment prior to use on site including:
  • Scheduling frequencies and programming radio microphones
  • Programming digital amplifier configurations
  • Programming digital sound desks
  • Ensure any specific cables required for equipment to operate are present
  • Visually inspect cables for damage
  • Ensure any equipment specific rigging is correct and any safety bonds required are present
  • Visually inspect rigging and safety bonds
  • Check sub-hired equipment is correct and has the accessories booked/required
  • Prepare any consumables required for the event
  • Prepare and inspect cabling required for events ensuring:
  • The correct cables are selected
  • Cables are clean and tape free
  • Cables have been recently tested
  • Mark cases with event, contents and location information ready for dispatch
  • Mark all prepared equipment’s/items as prepared on prep lists as each item is completed
  • Once each item is checked and ready for despatch move it to the designated prep area for its event
  • Once all equipment is ready for despatch carry out a final check to ensure all items are present
  • Load equipment onto vehicles safely and within your capabilities

Post Event

  • Identify and mark an area within the store where the equipment will be unloading into and checked in from
  • Unload vehicles which arrive at Pb safely and within your capabilities, being aware of any dangers caused by any items which may have moved in transit
  • Check all items back into the store looking to ensure:
  • All items are returned from site
  • Any damage or loss is spotted and reported tothe AV operations Manager
  • Any items marked as damaged/faulty on site are singled out for attention and these are reported to the Audio Visual Technical Operations Manager and the Audio Visual Service Maintenance & Projects Manager
  • Sub-hired equipment and any accessories are separated and checked ready for return to suppliers
  • Once returned equipment is checked in, pack away into designated storage space

On Events:

  • Follow crew brief to ensure you are always where required and when
  • Unload vehicles safely and within your capabilities, being aware of any dangers caused by any items which may have moved in transit, while encouraging safe working and care of equipment
  • Carry out the correct and safe rigging of all technical elements in particular sound
  • Program and operate sound equipment
  • Ensure all technical equipment is operating as should be and rectify any issues
  • Ensure the correct and safe de-rig of sound equipment and other technical equipment as needed once the show has finished
  • Load vehicles ready to return to Pb in a safe manor and within your capabilities, while encouraging safe working and care of equipment

Other Responsibilities:

  • Continually look for areas where our sound offering can be improved in:
  • Equipment offered
  • How it’s cased
  • How it’s prepared
  • How it’s maintained
  • How it’s stored
  • Ensure all sound equipment firmware is up to date and all new loudspeaker profiles are loaded into all amplifiers
  • Carry out maintenance and first line servicing as required and in-line with the Audio Visual Service Maintenance & Projects Manager’s instructions
  • Carry out preparation and the checking in and testing of equipment in a safe way and so as not to cause any damage to equipment
  • Organise storage in a safe and tidy manor which reduces any risk of injury to person

  • Check any goods delivered are as per delivery notes and has not been damaged in transit to Pb
  • Ensure you are always wearing correct PPE for tasks undertaken
  • To co-operate with weekend rotas where necessary and holiday requests thus ensuring the AV Department is always covered adequately and not breaching any health and safety regulations.
  • To communicate with Audio Visual Technical Operations Manager to ensure breaks are taken at times which ensure the workshop is always staffed
  • To work safely and within Health & Safety regulations at all times and to familiarise yourself with the health and safety policy seeking further training and development if required.
  • To undertake other AV workshop duties as required and requested by the Audio Visual Technical Operations Manager for more bespoke requests.
  • To participate in the loading and unloading of vehicles as equipment leaves and returns to the workshop
  • To cover for holidays, sickness and absences in the workshop
  • To attend shows as determined by the Audio Visual Technical Operations Manager as part of the technical team to aid in the set up and operation of the lighting, video and audio equipment
  • Support all other technical team members in the delivery of their roles
  • To be a proactive team member within Pb engaging professionally with internal staff whilst also acting as an ambassador for Pb externally
