Essential Question 3: What conditions, attitudes, and behaviors support a Visual Arts Studio Community? What factors prevent or encourage people to take creative risks? How does collaboration expand the creative process in sustaining a Visual Arts Studio?
Essential Question 3: Who is the Visual Artist & What Can We Learn From The Visual Artist?
Essential Question 4: What is Visual Literacy & How is it Best Used By The Visual Artist and Viewer to Communicate and Read Meaningful Content in works of art?
Objective: The student will be able to:
- use the Alice programming environment to create three Alice Files that promote a Visual Arts Community, Creating A Who Is The Artist Alice File, and A Visual Literacy Alice File that promotes reading and analyzing 1 or more works of art. Students will incorporate the following terms in their own personal Visual Arts Community File: Artist, Work of Art, Community, Art Elements, Art Principles.
- use the Alice program to create a Visual Art Studio Community File in their Visual Arts Portfolio.
- Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work that support a Visual Arts Studio.

Procedure:
Warm-up/Preparation for Learning: (5 minutes)
- Pass out Alice Notes and Chapter1 ArtTalk Lesson Handouts
- Set up PowerPointAlice presentation – Chapter 1 Lesson Art In Your World
- Set up Alice Tutorial 1
Directed Assistance/Learning Activity: ( 30 minutes)
- Introduce The Importance of the Visual Arts Studio Community. Encourage students to directly engage in the habits of a visual artist. 5 minutes
- Discuss essential Visual Art questions. 5 minutes
- Use the power point presentation to motivate the use of Alice and to discuss how to open Alice and access the tutorials in creating a Visual Art Portfolio and Creating My Favorite Art Museum. 20 minutes
- Assign pairs for Chapter 1 Art In Your World Lessons 5 minutes
- Pairs continue to work on Alice Lesson Plan Tutorials 45 minutes
Closure/Reflection on Learning: (10 minutes) (Closure activities may be oral or written.)
- Explain how to create a new virtual world.
- Explain how to add objects to a virtual world.
- Name the different parts of the Alice programming environment and explain what each part does.
- Create Alice Files that incorporate Establishing A Visual Arts Community, Who Is The Artist, Visual Literacy & The Artist, and Using the Art Elements and Principles in creating works of art.
