Fayette County Community Service All Stars
Created in 2004 to Recognize and Honor Deserving Community-Minded Students
January 10, 2016
The Fayette County Community Service Scholarship Program was created in 2004 and has rewarded over 100 students with approximately $50,000 in scholarships. During the first ten years, students were recognized and honored at a banquet where awardeesreceived nice plaques and wereasked to take a couple of minutes to offer acceptance remarks. The event was shown via tape delay on local cable television, and each awardee had a very lengthy article/picture in the Herald Standard. Starting in 2014, our trustees chose to forego the banquet and decided that money would be better served being used for student scholarships.
In the past, each of the seven Fayette County High Schools, along with the 3 higher eds, were asked to select one student who best represented their school with regards to community service, and those students became Fayette County Community Service All Stars. In 2016, only county high school students areeligible, and all applications for this scholarship must be sent to the Community Foundation of Fayette County. Our committee trustees have raised the funds for this program, and we will forward the names of our awardees to the Foundation for their approval.
