Job Outline :

The Get Into project is a new employability programme based in Bexhill for young people aged 15-24 who are Not in Employment, Education or Training. Through a 4 week rolling programme (running 3 days per week), students will gain key employability skills as well as develop the creative thinking and digital skills that will support progression into employment, apprenticeships, traineeships, further education or voluntary work.

The lead tutor will successfully deliver an employability award and digital skills project to groups of approximately 10-15 students on rolling programmes. The programme will use Digital Media and Marketing as a tool for participants to both gain confidence, improve their employability, set up professional social media accounts and progress into positive destination.

The Lead Tutor will be responsible for overseeing the classroom delivery of all project aims, ensuring students achieve their qualification aims overcome barriers to participation, and progress into apprenticeships, traineeships, education, work or volunteering

The post-holder will use Creative & Digital, project led learning to inspire and motivate our students, supporting them to set up their own professional social media accounts and create content to promote themselves to employers online.

The main contact time for the programme will be 10am-3.30pm daily with further job support and drop in provision offered from 3.30pm-5pm. Participants will also be able to access ongoing support and advice from the Lead tutor following the end of the 4 week programme, during drop-ins to ensure that they can positively progressed.

The lead tutor will work alongside the Project Manager and Recruitment Officer to support the learner enrollment and initial assessment processes, set learning aims and track progress and achievement of qualifications throughout the programme.

The progression of students into positive destinations is key to the project success and the Lead Tutor will again be expected to lead on progression planning with the students, support them to apply for vacancies, have an up to date CV, prepare for interview and ultimately progress.

The programme will run continuously until the end of July 2018. We will seek to source sustainable funding to allow continuation of the role to deliver employability programmes ongoing post July 18.

Areas of delivery

The curriculum is to design and deliver a 4 week rolling programme to support students development of employability skills, as well as build confidence and learning digital skills to support progression into apprenticeships, traineeships, employment, further education or voluntary work.

This will include delivery of the following qualifications and content.

●BTEC 9 Credit Award in Workskills

●Digital Skills training to support students to set up own Social Media accounts and content to help promote themselves to prospective employers

●1.5 hours per day of drop in job search and application support to current students as well as all those who have completed the programme and yet to progress

●1-2-1 coaching support as required

English and Maths

Whilst we are not planning direct delivery of English and Maths qualifications, the Lead Tutor will be expected to support positive development of students English and Maths skills on programme to support achievement and Progression.

Key Duties Associated with the job role

  1. Plan, deliver and assess high quality training in creative media and communications, delivery the Work Skills award and seek to accredit students who need don’t have an English or maths qualification in an online functional skills award.
  2. Using industry links and experience, create an exciting, engaging and relevant programme for Dv8 students, embedding Works skills units (NCFE) into your delivery of the curriculum.
  3. Work alongside the project manager to ensure all assessment and IV requirements are met in a timely manner, by providing student work to be regularly assessed and tracked so that the project manage can follow awarding body processes and work can be stored suitably for moderation.
  4. Ensure all teaching, learning and assessment processes are recorded and evidenced using the appropriate documents, including schemes of work, Individual Learning Plans, and Edmodo for VLE.
  5. Establish and maintain excellent relationships with young people and provide advice and support to promote positive personal development, welfare and behaviour.
  6. Be aware of other provision operating in the centre and work hard to maintain effective relationships with centre teams, student support teams, and tutors on Key stage 4 and study programmes.
  7. Be proactive in relaying any concerns regarding the shared space of the Hive to Centre teams and the Get Into Project Manager
  8. Attend all Dv8 Bexhill centre meetings where possible play an active role in the development of the project on these premises.
  9. Take the necessary steps to ensure that the learning environment is suitably structured, considering the range of both ability and age of students on the course.
  10. Ensure robust initial assessment is in place to identify each learner’s appropriate level of training and use initial and diagnostic assessment to ensure all learning needs are identified fully.
  11. Take into account any relevant information received such as EHCP and/or other recognised SEN needs and plan delivery with the support tutors around these
  12. Link in with the Literacy and Numeracy curriculum teams, where appropriate to gain guidance on the delivery of online Functional Skills qualifications.
  13. Ensure that each student’s learning journey is monitored and supported through the completion of an Individual Learning Plan (ILP); including reporting to parents and carers and attending Open Evenings / Consultation events.
  14. Support students to identify and achieve progression aims onto further education, apprenticeships, working closely with the marketing officer and the project manager to identify positive destination pathways for students into employment or training.
  15. Participate in curriculum and other team meetings, and attend all CPD and scheduled whole staff INSET days
  16. Ensure that safeguarding of students and staff at Dv8 is paramount at all times, including completing risk assessments and Health & Safety documentation as required.
  17. Ensure all quality assurance, course review and improvement processes are followed and that quality improvement plans are implemented within programmes.
  18. Ensure that Dv8’s Equality & Diversity policies, procedures and initiatives are actively promoted to all staff and students at all times
  19. Ensure that the Prevent Duty is fully understood and complied with.

Skills required for post

Essential Skills

  1. Hold a level 4 teaching qualification; be enrolled on a course to gain a relevant qualification or willingness to undertake such training immediately.
  2. Excellent knowledge of vocational skills as required
  3. Substantial experience of delivering media based courses
  4. Demonstrable experience of moving young people onto to positive destinations, including further education, employment, or training
  5. Ability to work with a range of staff in a proactive and positive way
  6. Experience of managing a learning environment, comprising of one-to-one, tutorial and group sessions
  7. Ability to plan, deliver and assess engaging and effective programmes of learning
  8. Ability to build positive relationships with young people
  9. Skills in managing challenging behaviour, and an understanding of complex behavioural needs
  10. Willingness to develop own professional capacity, undergo additional training and evaluate practice

Desirable Skills

  1. At least 2 years’ experience of delivering accredited learning
  2. Experience of working in 14-19 sector
  3. Youth work, IAG or counselling qualifications
  4. Experience of delivering employability awards
  5. Experience of delivering literacy and numeracy qualifications
  6. Relevant safeguarding training and/or willingness to be trained
  7. Knowledge of apprenticeships
