Easter Sunday

Today is the greatest feast in the Church’s calendar. Easter Sunday is a day of faith, joy and rejoicing. The resurrection of Jesus is the cornerstone of our faith and the most extraordinary happening in human history. For Christians there is a not a day that compares with Easter Day. This is truly the day of the Lord! All our hopes and happiness come from what happened on the first Easter morning. It’s a dream come true. By God’s power, the stone was rolled back, the grave was opened and the tomb was found empty. Jesus Christ has risen triumphant from the dead. Nothing could ever be the same again because the pattern of human life was no longer limited by the cycle of birth to death in this world. Pain, despair and misery were pushed into second place as a whole new future full of the hope and happiness of eternal life, was opened up for us beyond the grave. Heaven and earth rejoiced in celebrating Jesus’ victory over death for mankind.

GOD HAD MADE HIS LOVE FOR US ABSOLUTELY CLEAR

The gospel captures the excitement of the disciples on that first Easter morning. It gives a glimpse into their new found happiness as they hurried to spread the Good News. The Good News that DEATH IS NOT THE END. Easter is the answer to all the tears that we shed at the graves of our loved ones because we have a future greater than we dare believe. “And man will live forever because of Easter Day”. Yes our loves ones are with God who is Our Father. God so loved us so much that he gave his son on a cross to prove it.

Father how wonderful your care for us! How boundless your merciful love! To ransom a slave you away your Son. O Happy Fault! O necessary sin of Adam, which gained us so great a Redeemer!

And to end with a quote of the week from a St. Luke’s year 3:

“My mum says that trying to get my dad out of bed on a Sunday morning is like trying to get someone up from the dead.”

P.S. The other day Fr. Joseph was driving down the Motorway when I called him on his mobile. When he answered it, I told him in an urgent warning tone, “Fr. Joseph! I’ve just heard on the News that there’s a CAR going the WRONG WAY down the M6. Please be careful!” And he said, “It’s not just ONE CAR, Fr. John, there are HUNDREDS OF THEM.”!!!!!

HAPPY EASTER EVERYBODY!
