New Business

  • Review Student Perception Survey instruments:
  • Allows some SPHIS customization of first 50 questions for grad students only. Opportunity for input from the various departments/programs.
  • Especially consider section “About The Program” beginning at #43.
  • Could add a specific “SPHIS” section of questions.
  • SPHIS is not currently utilizing data from these reports.
  • “Student Services” questions will be revised for next year’s survey.
  • Changes or additions should be submitted to Melissa by Monday, January 23rd.
  • Tammi would like to see the undergrad survey.
  • Academic Affairs Update:
  • Follow-up on CEPH substantive change documents.
  • CEPH has accepted changes to MPH concentrations in HP and PHM
  • Also accepted changes to MSc in CIS
  • PhD in HM?? What is status of substantive change?
  • New CEPH Criteria: Still unclear on if SPHIS needs to indicate compliance with new criteria by Dec. 18 or if we wait until our review.
  • Barnette reported on provost’s office responsesto our three proposed programs (Big Data, Biostat Certificate, MS in Biostats collaboration with Kentucky State).
  • Quito program is making progress with university. Working out details with budget, etc. Unlikely that this will be active by Fall, 2017.
  • Barnette is recommending full review and revision of SLO’s for all programs.
  • Suggestion to coordinate SLOs with new CEPH criteria.
  • SLOs need to be coordinated with relevant syllabi and their rubrics.
  • Recommendation to offer a course on rubrics: justification and content.
  • Create a library of rubrics examples for publication on SharePoint.
  • CEPH has requested a letter from Blakely outlining SACS probation and its impact on our program. Barnette will send the SACS letter recently received from provosts office.
  • School-wide Calendar: “SPHIS Calendar”
  • Need to utilize the SPHIS Outlook master calendar for all school events, including undergrad activities at Belknap.
  • What items should be included? Should the content be monitored?

Updates

  • Provost’s Strategic Planning Request:
  • SPHIS submitted our “Goals for 2016-17” report on Dec. 15th, 2016.
  • Report included questions about if/when we would receive any response or feedback from the provost’s office.
  • SPHIS Bylaws:
  • Baumgartner is meeting with committee and VP for Faculty Affairs on January 20th.

Other items

  • Discussion over the role of Hanover Research from minutes of last meeting.
  • Academic Affairs: Should consider resources involved in curriculum changes, etc. Currently, changes are presented and reviewed without any consideration of impact on resources.
  • Could be emphasized in the Procedure for Changes to a Program, but the committee needs to expect accountability.
  • Will be an agenda item for AA/CC.
