ESTACADA AREA ARTS COMMISSION MEETING
Wed., June 1, 2011
City Council Chambers – 6:30 pm
Commissioners present: Gloria Polzin, Jami Berry, Peter Hamer, Am Griswold, and Toni Visconti. Absent: Jane Reid and Rob Gaskill.
Guests present: Sean Drinkwine.
Meeting called to order: 6:30 pm
Approval of May minutes: Approved and passed.
Mail/Thank You Cards: Jami will send a thank you card to Gary Warkentin for the donation of his beautiful wood stand to accompany his tile that we purchased as a gift for June Bisantz.
Financial Statement/Budget: Due to Rob’s absence, there was no official report this month. Gloria reported that the Arts Commission received $100 from Work for Art, and the gallery brought in its bumper sticker money totaling $27 for May.
Annual Office Elections: Elections were held and the positions held by the current officers were status quo. Gloria Polzin, Chair; Am Griswold, Vice-Chair; Jami Berry, Secretary; and Rob Gaskill, Treasurer.
Estacada on the Clackamas. The Powerhouse Project: River Mill Dam:
No report due to Jane’s absence. Jami should have the replacement Snapfish photo albums completed by the next meeting.
Storm Drain Project: Am estimated that the remaining 2 stencils will be done by the next arts commission meeting. Thank you, Am.
Poetry “Jam” Event: After a brief discussion, Pete will pick a date in October for it to begin – hopefully holding it at the Flora Room at the library. He’d like to see it happen monthly so it will grow and become a permanent event for Estacada. Everyone agreed that would be a great idea. He’ll think of a better name for this event in the meantime and will let us know when he has a date. It will be a very inexpensive event to put on by the Arts Commission and a great one. Thank you, Pete.
Summer Celebration Update: Everything seems to be going along smoothly. Pete reported that just today he received a message from the Shanghai Woolies inability to play Saturday night. He has some replacement bands in mind and will let Jami know as soon as possible so she can get that information to the graphic artist.
CONNECT! Gloria brought in the donated sign from June Bisantz – “CONNECT” - that will be placed near the future community garden at the junior high. Gloria will check with the school administrators prior to putting up the sign, which Jerry will actually do hopefully by the 4th of July.
Sean said Whitney Signs could indeed make the exact same “kind” of sign for us and Gloria would like to see six made with local artists designing them. Jami will ask at the next Co-Op Meeting if any artists there are interested.
Also – our Jane Reid and husband Gary Warkentin are in Connecticut visiting relatives this week. They arranged it so that they could meet with June Bisantz personally and give her the Arts Commission’s thank you gift – which they did today! Jane sent us photos of the three of them meeting and wrote a brief note relaying how nice June was and how she really enjoyed talking art and community with her. Thank you, Jane!

Next month’s meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 6th at 6:30 pm in the City Council Chambers.
