GET INVOLVED
With Children’s Hospital Central California!
Join George the Giraffe and help brighten a child’s life!
There are many different ways you can help the patients at Children’s Hospital:
· PATIENT CARE: Provide Support to clinical staff by holding and rocking babies, entertaining patients in their rooms, visiting with family and much more!
· EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT: Visit with family in treatment rooms and act as a liaison between family and staff.
· GIFT SHOP: Assist customers in selecting the perfect gift, wrapping and stocking shelves.
· CHILD LIFE PLAYROOM: Assisting Child Life Staff with various activities and arts and crafts projects.
· CLASSROOM: Read stories or assist the teacher in providing an educational setting for in-patients during their hospital stay.
· “GEORGE” the MASCOT: Appear as “George” at various on or off-site events.
· GREETERS: Act as host/hostess, providing escort services and information throughout the hospital.
· CHAPLAIN AIDE PROGRAM: Provide spiritual support under the supervision of the staff chaplain (adults only)
· ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES: Assist in projects including word processing, filing, copying, faxing, answering telephones, stuffing envelopes and other hospital office projects.
· S.P.O.T.(Special Pets Offering TLC): Canines and their owners visit patients to provide pet assisted activities known to contribute to the healing of sick and injured children. (adults only)
· CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER: an Easter’s Seals day care available to the employees and physicians of Children’s Hospital. Needed to assist teacher sin carrying out daily activities with children. (students only)
· DIETARY SERVICES: Delivering and collecting daily menus from patient’s rooms and working collaboratively with Nutritionists in tray assembly. (students only)
Each year, more than 550 Children’s volunteers, ranging in ages from 13 to 90, donate their times and energy to support our mission to provide high quality comprehensive health care to children regardless of their ability to pay.
We ask that you make an initial commitment of 6 months of service, volunteering a minimum of 6 hours a month. If you are not able to make a commitment, ask about our “Big Hearts for Little Hands” program.
Many special events organized by volunteers from Groups and Organizations: high schools, churches, retirement and nursing homes, scouting troops, corporations and professional groups and societies.
Group and Organization Event Ideas:
· Host a Bingo Night
· Puppet Show or skit
· Organize a game night
· Help clean and disinfect toys
· Host a Karaoke Party
· Magic Show
· Share special skills (arts, crafts, drawing, etc.)
· Share your musical abilities
· Host a small carnival with fun booths and games
· Decorate the Child Life Playroom or Classroom in a festive holiday theme
· Your own CREATIVE idea for an event!
