Some verbs follow the vowel pattern i - a- u:

begin / began / begun / commencer

Some verbs end in -aught/-ought in both the preterite and past participle:

bring / brought / brought / apporter
buy / bought / bought / acheter
catch / caught / caught / attraper
teach / taught / taught / enseigner
think / thought / thought / penser
