ASSIGNMENTS / SELF-ASSESSMENT
(1)Week 2 Discussion:Online Class:After reading and reflecting upon Topics 2.1 through 2.4, post your responses to Week 2 Discussion questions on this week's discussion board following the format outlined in Guidelines for Weekly Discussions (in Course Information). To summarize those requirements: You need to post at least three messages on the discussion board: (1) An INITIAL post that answers one of the questions and is thoughtful, well-reasoned, and substantive (about 100-150 words), (2) a FOLLOW-UP RESPONSE replying to someone else's post or responding to someone's comments about your initial post, and (3) a SUMMATION which gives your conclusions to the final summation question. Be sure to put your comments in a message, not in an attachment on the discussion board. Then copy and paste the summation you posted, including the heading (with name, date, etc.), into this Progress Report.
Onsite Class: After going over the material in Topics 2.1 through 2.4 in class, reflect upon Week 2 Discussion questions and be prepared to discuss them during the following class period. However, include your preliminary conclusions (a tentative answer to the summation question) in this week's Progress Report / 0
(2) American Mosaic: Read the American Mosaic "Indian Scalping and European War Dogs" on pp. 14-15 of your text and write a paragraph explaining to which interpretation of the Spaniards and Native Americans it is most similar. (See Topic 2.4. for the interpretations.) Include your paragraph in this Progress Report. / 0
(3) Primary Source Selection: Locate a primary source related to your theme that you would like to use in your first essay and submit a proposal in this Progress Report: (1) indicating your primary source by giving the proper MLA style citation with a clickable link (you'll need to remove the brackets), (2) explaining your reasons for selecting the source and how it is related to your theme, and (3) providing at least one good online secondary source which you intend to use as a reference in the essay. Be sure to use the proper MLA bibliographic style to cite your secondary source and explain why you selected it. (I have put a sample essay in Course Documents for you to see, but be sure to study the Guidelines for Essays and Presentations too before proceeding with your essay.) / 0
