HL2003 review
I’m not going to get into any thing technical about this model or any modelor that matter. I’m looking for something that is visually appealing, a good paint and markings application and parts that fit well. Just the general things most average collectors will look for and appreciate. I’ll leave any technical points of view up to others.
I don’t know how Hobby Master does it but they continue to produceexcellent 1/200 scale airliners. The British Eagle DC-4 is a real stand out. The model comes in a newly designed showcase box. The clear plastic face allows you to see exactly what you are buying without having to flip open a cover. This is great as far as I can see. I don’t have to ask a sakes clerk to pass me a model just to check out the paint scheme.
The fit of all the various parts is remarkable as is the masterful application of paintand the tampo applied markings. Hobby Master has become the industry leader for these two items, not to say they aren’t also the leaders for over allquality and detail.
The fit of wings and fuselage is superb as are the vertical tail and horizontalstabilizers. The only major component thatisn’t metal is the horizontal stabilizer with the restbeing metal. This assures that you are getting not only a great model but one that truly can be called die-cast. The engines look very realistic and the propellers are free spinning so you photographers won’t have any difficulty making them spin while you photograph.
The landing gear is quite easily added or removed depending on your taste. The gear fits snuggly into the wells that are notched in a way that the gear will only fit in one direction. The main gear is metal with rolling wheels and rubber tires. The nose gear is also metal but the wheel is metal and in a fixed position.
There is absolutely no sign of tail sitting with this or any of Hobby Masters 1/200 aircraft. If you like to see the model on a stand then you can use the one that is supplied. All you have to do is easily remove a plug in the belly and insert the tip of the stand in the whole that was filled with the plug.
Whether you are a seasoned collector or a novice, the Hobby Master British Eagle DC-4 definitely has to be considered and added to your display. 1/200 scale is the best scale for airliners because it is large enough to see detail and it doesn’t take up a ton of room in a display case. Do yourself a favor and get this model.
