Senior Family Physician

The University of Cape Town seeks to appoint afull-time Senior Family Physician (Vredenburg) in the Division of Family Medicine.
The successful candidate will co-ordinate and lead student teaching/learning activities in the Saldanha Bay Sub-district, including the clinics and other designated health facilities in the West Coast District, for students from both the MBChB and Health and Rehabilitation Sciences programmes. The appointment is to an FT post for an initial period of 2 years.
Qualifications and skills required:
- Registration and good standing with the HPCSA as a general practitioner.
- Postgraduate specialist qualification in Family Medicine. Registration as a specialist Family Physician would be an advantage
- Familiarity with the South African health care system
- Clinic-based/problem-based teaching experience
- The ability to interact and network effectively with a wide range of professionals, academics and community organizations
- Proven administrative and organizational skills
Responsibilities include:
- Development and co-ordination of teaching, learning and assessment activities for undergraduate and postgraduate medical students in the West Coast District
- Assisting with co-ordination of teaching/learning activities for undergraduate students in the UCT School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.
- Developing and sustaining appropriate relationships with all relevant role players and stakeholders, including relevant personnel at the Vredenburg Provincial Hospital and its associated clinics. Community structures, NGO’s and local private practitioners.
- Participation in Faculty activities such as staff meetings, staff development activities, strategic planning meetings, administrative meetings and representing the Faculty on the relevant District provincial health administrative structures
- Clinical governance and clinical service responsibilities as designated by the Sub-district management
