About the Position…

Reporting to the Program Manager, this role will provide oversee the teams working in the Brighter Futures and Youth Hope programs. Please see the full Job Description in the following pages for more detailed information in regard to the typical duties of this role.

The Youth Hope and Brighter Futures programs support families with children aged between 0-8 and 9-15 years in the provision of an integrated, child and young person focused case management service focused on resolving concerns for children’s safety, welfare and wellbeing and strengthening the family unit.

Position Details…

Location:St Marys, NSW

Hours per week:37.5 hours per week in total

Days of work:Monday - Friday

Term:Permanent, subject to funding

Award Coverage:Salary and conditions of employment will be as described in the NSW SCHADS Award.

Salary:Salary will be at Level 6, Paypoint to be determined with successful applicant.

Positions available:There is 1 vacant position being advertised.

Travel:Some travel will be required as part of this role to attend meetings and other commitments in the area as applicable. A pool car is available for staff and where available this can be utilised, however in the event the pool car isn’t available you may need to use your personal vehicle. Use of a personal vehicle for business trips will be reimbursed to you by the applicable mileage reimbursement as stated in the SCHADS Award.

Probationary Period…

A six-month probationary period applies to all positions at Bridging the Gapfrom the date of appointment. A probationary review will be conducted prior to conclusion of this period.

Child Related Employment…

This role is classified as child related employment and as such, the successful applicant will be required to provide current clearance of a NSW “Working with Children Check” (under the Commission for Children & Young People Act 1998).

It is the organisation’s policy that the successful applicant also provide clearance of a Criminal History Background check also.

Team Leader –

Brighter Futures & Youth Hope

This position description should be read in conjunction with Bridging the Gap’sVision and Mission statement, Policy and Procedures, Organisation Chart, and the Youth Hopeand Brighter Futures Service Provision Guidelines, Practice Manuals and other applicable standards and regulations.

1.0Objectives of the Team Leader

1.1To lead teams of Youth and Family Coaches(Youth Hope Program) and Caseworkers (Brighter Futures) in the provision of an integrated, child and young person focused case management service focused on resolving concerns for children’s safety, welfare and wellbeing and strengthening the family unit;

1.2Uphold the practice principles of the Youth Hopeand Brighter Futures Programs that promote, facilitate and support:

1.2.1Healthy development in children and young people

1.2.2Strong, functional and well-supported families

1.2.3The reduction and/or prevention of child abuse and neglect in participating families

1.2.4Enhanced community capacity by strengthening and supporting families

1.3Be an active, cooperative member of a multidisciplinary team to ensure best practice in targeted service provision, smooth transitions to integrated services, and to contribute to the ongoing development and evaluation of the Youth Hope and Brighter Futures Programs;

1.4To encourage the professional growth and development of staff and contribute to a creative and positive workplace culture with a focus on providing service to children and families;

1.5Uphold and promote the Vision, Mission and Values of Bridging the Gap, both within the organisation and in the wider community.

2.0Job Function

Program Delivery – Youth Hope and Brighter Futures

2.1To oversee the eligibility assessment, case planning, review and exit process for families using Structured Decision Making (SDM) tools and Carelink+;

2.2To work with casework staff to engage families who have been referred to the program;

2.3Receive, process and allocate all new referrals and transferred cases in conjunction with the Program Manager to casework staff, including an initial assessment around child protection issues;

2.4To support casework staff in identifying and managing concerns for child safety, welfare and wellbeing, including:

2.4.1Making reports to the NSW Department of Family and Community Services in line with mandatory reporting legislation where necessary

2.4.2Developing safety plans, in collaboration with family members to promote child safety

2.5To chair regular case review/ family conference meetings as needed with caseworker, family members and other services involved with the family, with the purpose of planning and co-ordinating the work with family;

2.6To conduct regular file audits of all families, in conjunction with three monthly case review meetings;

2.7To provide regularcase management supervision to casework staff, including:

2.7.1Supporting staff with key assessment analysis and casework decisions

2.7.2Identifying and recommending appropriate training and development

2.7.3Supporting staff to identify issues/challenges to take to external clinical supervision sessions

Team Leadership

2.8To oversee regular data collection, program evaluation and general administration for the casework team including monthly reporting against program performance measures;

2.9Regular attendance and leadership of team meetings, team consultations, Lead Agency Practice Forums including participation in the Action Learning program, and other meetings as directed by the Program Manager;

2.10Induct, train and mentor new casework staff in conjunction with Program Manager;

2.11Conduct regular performance reviews with caseworkers in conjunction with Program Manager;

2.12Maintain a working knowledge of and adhere to the Interagency Guidelines for Child Protection NSW (2006), The Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998), the Privacy Act and other relevant legislation;

2.13Commit to a continuing process of personal/ professional development and skills acquisition, including participating in annual performance appraisal and development process;

2.14Exercise any other authority which may be delegated from time to time with due care and professionalism, maintaining an awareness of agency expectations and standards at all times;

Relationships of the Team Leader

3.1Reports to and is supported by the Program Manager;

3.2Leads and supports a team of Brighter Futures Caseworkers and Youth Hope Youth and Family Coaches;

3.3Works alongside all Bridging the Gap staff, for the purposes of maintaining a co-operative and collaborative multi-disciplinary working environment.

3.4Works under the guidance of Lead Agency Program Manager, Team Leader and Practice Specialists

3.5Collaborates with Team Leaders and all team members of the Brighter Futures and Youth Hope Programs across Lead Agency and partner agencies, and the Department of Community Services;

3.6Liaises with agencies identified as ‘Prescribed bodies’ by the NSW Children and Young Persons Care and Protection Act, 1998 for the purpose of information exchange relating to the care and wellbeing of children involved in the Youth Hope program.
