Syllabus for Chemistry

What can you expect from me?

  • I will work diligently to maintain a safe and interactive learning environment where my number one priority is to make sure you receive ample opportunity to increase your understanding of Chemistry.
  • I will be prepared each day to facilitate your growth as a Chemistrystudent.
  • I will offer you adequate opportunity to exhibit your progress in a variety of ways.
  • I am required by the State of Tennessee to record and maintain your progress in the form of a number grade. Remember, I’m just the bank.
  • I will treat you with respect and be as fair as possible.

What can I expect from you?

  • I expect you to come to class and to be on time.
  • I expect you to have the items necessary to learn.
  • I expect effort and participation on classroom discussion, point opportunities, lab work, and other assessments throughout the class.
  • I expect respect towards your classmates, my room, and myself.

This class will…

Cover the standards required by the State of Tennessee pertaining to Chemistry which can be found in the classroom and on the Tennessee Educational Website. General Standards are as follows:

Standard 1: Atomic Structure 2: Matter and Energy 3: Interactions of Matter

Learning strategies will include the following: Lab work, classroom discussion, group activities, group assessment, individual assessment, lecture, and research. There will be some form of assessment at the conclusion of every class. There will be one research/presentation project completed at the end of the year. There will also be a comprehensive midterm exam and a final exam.

Procedures: 1. Be in your seat when I take attendance. I will count you absent if your seat is void of human presence. Remain quiet while I take attendance.

  1. Look to the MATH board. There will be an assignment waiting for you.
  2. You will take some form of notes almost every day. Be prepared with BOOK, Pencil, and Paper.
  3. Ask plenty of questions because I will!

Station Work/Lab procedures (We will go over lab specifics the day before doing the lab)

  1. Wait for my cue to get started.
  2. Stay in your assigned area.
  3. Work diligently to complete the task and help others to do so as well. TEAM Together Everyone Aids in Mastery
  4. Know where I am at all times. Listen
  5. USE COMMON SENSE!

Rules: Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Ready

  • I will let you know if you have broken one of these rules in my classroom. It will not be up for debate during class.
  1. Speak when free to do so but close your mouth when it’s time to learn.
  2. Be prepared to be successful!
  3. Leave my class in good shape.

  1. Listen to your IPOD
  2. Contact Parents but this time I’ll be nice.
