Funding News

Segro Community Fund for London 2015. Deadline: 5pm on Friday 13th March 2015.

Fund open in Ealing and Hounslow and a number of other London boroughs.

They will award grants to projects falling under the theme ofemployability. They particularly encourage applications from groups working under the priority areas of the theme.

Projects may provide a range of services which help people progress towards employment or stay in work. This might include training to develop soft skills like increasing confidence, support to gain vocational qualifications, or a programme of activity which moves people directly into employment. They will be looking for projects specifically working with the following target groups:

  1. young people
  2. homeless people or those at risk of homelessness

UK Armed Forces Day GrantThe deadline for applications is 27 March 2015.

Communities across the UK are invited to apply for funding to host events to celebrate this year's Armed Forces Day on 29 June.In support of this event, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is providing funding to help organisations and individuals in the UK host an Armed Forces Day event this summer.

Last year, events took place in all parts of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. They included Armed Forces Day tea parties, parades, big band concerts, civil war military re-enactments and live and static demonstrations.

Events must occur a week either side of the National Armed Forces Day. This year the celebrations will fall on Saturday 27 June 2015, when a major national event will be held in Guildford, Surrey.

Music for AliceThis round of applications will be open 1st-31st March 2015

Awards of up to £1000 are made twice a year to enable groups and organisations to purchase musical instruments and equipment so that they can improve lives through music.

Music for Alice encourages applications from a variety of organisations that require extra support to continue the work they do.

Awards can be to made to any group, organisation or charity based in the United Kingdom that has a formerly constituted character and can demonstrate that securing funding will enable them to improve lives through music. We cannot accept applications from schools.

Theyare targeting two distinct groups.
Our “Music for Youth” award is aimed at applicants focussed on using music to improve lives for 0-19 year olds.
Our “Music for Health” award is aimed at applicants focussed on using music for health or rehabilitation benefits.

A group can apply for any amount up to £1000.00. As long as you are able to demonstrate the need, the impact and legacy of the amount of money applied for, it will in no way affect the chances of being successful.

Partners for Health – Grant ProgrammeDeadline 29th May 2015

London Catalyst and the Hospital Saturday Fund have come together to launch a new‘Partners for Health’grant programme. Grants of up to £10,000 will be considered for social action projects tackling the effects of poverty and health inequalities in London.‘Partners for Health’is open to community groups that can demonstrate a thoughtful response to local needs and partnership with an expert health agency. There is a particular interest in the areas of mental health and addiction.

The Royal Victoria Hall FoundationNext deadline last Friday in August 2015

Funding is available for smaller scale professional theatre projects to encourage and assist projects in the Greater London area with the performance and/or development of professional dramatic work.

The Woodland Trust- Free treesThe closing date for autumn applications is 3 September.

The Trust has 4,500tree packsto give away this autumn to school and community groups. Packs are available in quantities of 30, 105 or 420 trees.

Premier League & The FA Facilities Small Grant Fund

Small grantsof £1,000 - £10,000 for capital equipment or ground improvementsare available to non-league football clubs, the community trusts of league clubs, as well as education establishments and Councils. The grants will fund up to 50% of the costs, and can be part of a bigger project if the total cost is below £50,000. There is no closing date given.

AlFayed Charitable Foundation

Children's hospices in the UK are not entitled to any specific government funding; many rely almost entirely on public donations. For this reason, Mohamed Al Fayed set up the Al Fayed Charitable Foundation to help children suffering from life-threatening illnesses or living in poverty.

The Foundation is committed to helping make a difference. As well as financial support, causes receive toys, chocolate and hampers, primary schools throughout the UK are sent reading books, and Mr Al Fayed and Harrods staffs give time to help distribute food, blankets, gifts and other comforts for the homeless at Christmas.

Grants range from£1,000to £850,000.

To apply for funding from the AlFayed Charitable Foundation, please send an overview of your cause or fundraising project, and how you would like the Foundation to help.

Sport England - Small Grant Scheme

Sport England is committed to the creation of a world-leading community sport system. This means focusing our investment on organisations and projects that will grow and sustain participation in grassroots sport and create opportunities for people to excel at their chosen sport. In addition to our investment in key partners to deliver specific objectives, wehave funding programmes open to a wide range of organisations. These include sports clubs, voluntary or community organisations, local authorities, schools, colleges and universities. The Sport England Small Grants Programme has been set up to support local community sport projects which seek to increase participation, sustain participation or develop opportunities for people to excel at their chosen sport. For example, we might help a sports club expand its age range by helping it to buy extra team kit or pay additional coaching fees. Or we may help youth clubs work together with local sports clubs to get more young people playing sport. It is open to any bona fide not-for-profit club or association, statutory body or educational establishment.

Grants of between £300 and £10,000 are available for revenue and small
capital projects. The total project costs must not exceed £50,000.

Application Form:applyvia a single-stage online form. They offer advice and support to applicants, and the whole process, from receipt of application to decision, will take no longer than six weeks.

John Lyon’s Charity

John Lyon’s Charity gives grants to registered charities for the benefit of children and young people. Grants are restricted to the nine London boroughs of Barnet, Brent, Camden, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Kensington & Chelsea and the Cities of London and Westminster. Since 1992 John Lyon’s Charity has distributed over £65 million to a large range of services including youth clubs, arts projects, counselling, child care and parental support schemes, sports programmes and academic bursaries. They accept first stage proposals at any time.

Looking for funding for Sports Activities – The London Sport Funding Pagessection provides monthly funding updates available for individuals and organisations. These may be local, regional or national funding streams.

Learn to Write Successful Funding Applications – only £5. 17 March 2015

This workshop focuses on the Sport England Small Grants Funding but the lessons learnt can be used for applications for other Sport England funded including Sportivate and other agencies.

Sport England’s research shows that around 66% of applications for funding are unsuccessful. There's only one reason for a good idea not to make it and that's the application isn't answering the questions correctly.

•Help you get the project concept right for each application

•Understand what is meant by sustainability and how to explain yours in an application

•Provide insight into Sport England Assessment and what makes a strong application

You don't need to have a project in mind but if you do bring the ideas with you.

Community Development - an accredited qualification. Begins in April.

This nationally recognised qualification is awarded by Certa.

The programme covers community development values and processes, community group dynamics, social injustice and diversity in communities, and is taught by Fit4Funding’s Sally Deith - a community activist and teacher of more than 30 years.

The programme is delivered entirely online.

The three month course is currently available at an early-bird offer of £725, rising to £850 from 13 March.

Get Grant Ready Beginner's Course in Funding Applications (London)

New to funding and don't know where to start? Designed specifically for people working in the public and voluntary and community sectors, our practical one-day 'Get Grant Ready' course aims to provide the tools necessary to discover and understand the various sources of funding.

This popular course will equip you with the skills needed to confidently research and apply for funding, covering how to write winning applications to maximise your organisation's chance of grants success.

It comprises many of the basic elements needed to help you on the road to writing a successful bid, including:

  • Identifying different sources of funding
  • Writing a good letter of proposal
  • What funders are looking for
  • Common reasons why applications tend to fail

Trainee participation features heavily both as part of group work and working individually, and attendees will have the opportunity to meet others who are involved in funding - allowing those present to share and exchange ideas and experiences.

This introductory course is geared to those new to funding in the public and not-for-profit sectors.

Neighbourhood planning and grants programme – coming soon!

The new Neighbourhood Planning Grants and Support Programme (2015-2018) is aimed at supporting local communities in England that want to draw up a neighbourhood plan for their area.

Town and parish councils, neighbourhood forums and prospective neighbourhood forums preparing a neighbourhood development plan or neighbourhood development order in England may apply.

Two forms of support are available:

- Grants of between £1,000 and £8,000 for groups writing a neighbourhood plan or neighbourhood development order.

- Specific packages of technical support where needed, and a further £6,000 in grants, for groups facing more complex issues.

Groups with complex issues include:

- Neighbourhood forums (where there is no Parish or Town Council).

- Clusters of parishes

- High growth areas.

- Deprived areas.

- Business led neighbourhood plans.

- Populations of over 25,000.

- Groups preparing a neighbourhood development order.

The funding is for costs associated with developing a neighbourhood plan or a neighbourhood development order. Project should be delivered within six months of the application or within the financial year, whichever is soonest.

The support programme runs to 2018, and from April it will also provide community groups with technical assistance and expert advice to support new neighbourhood plans and neighbourhood development orders, throughout the process.

There are no deadlines as this is a rolling programme that is expected to run throughout the year.

Online tax registration

Charities can nowregister onlinewith HM Revenue and Customs for tax purposes. Registration is necessary to claim Gift Aid and other tax reliefs. The process is separate to that of the charity regulators but there is a commitment to moving to joint registration by 2016.

A celebration of active women: The 'This Girl Can' campaign
Sport England have launched a new campaign, 'This Girl Can', to celebrate active women up and down the country who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it, how they look or how red their face gets. Alongside 8 other cities, London Sport is receiving support from Sport England to activate the campaign locally. Working closely with partners, London Sport aims to break down the barriers of participation and get more women and girls physically active across the 33 boroughs.
