JOB DESCRIPTION:Community Centre Manager
A terrific part time position managing and developing a popular local community centre that hires to a wide range of artistic, educational and community groups. The post holder will confidently manage the Centre’s day to day needs and will work with trustees to establish a new management strategy with the opportunity to contribute ideas.

Hours15 per week – 3 hours per day, altered as necessary from time to time to meet
demands of the post. Some work outside normal office hours will be necessary.

ContractAn initial one year Fixed Term Contract – renewable subject to funding
Holidays10 days per year plus public holidays and 3 extra days over the Xmas period

Aims of the post:
To work with the trustees to arrive at, establish and implement an effective management strategy and business plan for Hargrave Hall, so that it serves User Groups and the local community in a fair and equitable way and has a sustainable future. To provide onsite training and work experience in management and admin skills.
Operational Duties:
- Organising and coordinating bookings and timetable for both regular User Groups and one-off events; preparing invoices and managing payments/ deposits for User Groups; updating website calendar and office timetable/daybook.
- Establishing relationships with User Group representatives; gaining and maintaining a thorough knowledge of all activities that take place at HH; monitoring how User Groups impact on each other and on HH; monitoring User Groups’ impact on residents; monitoring User Group use of HH and ensuring that use falls within agreements.
- Working with trustees,staff and user groups to regularly monitor, evaluate and - where necessary - improve all areas of the HHCA’s work.
- Managing budgets of HHCA, ensuring that HCCA’s finances are managed prudently, balancing accounts and liaising with accountant, banking as appropriate, managing petty cash.
- Ensuring/monitoring the financial viability of all the centre’s activities and presenting the trustees with clear quarterly accounts and annual income and expenditure budgets with reference to business plan targets.
- Overseeing the maintenance of the building, monitoring ongoing repair needs; working alongside HfI, arranging access considering impact on User Groups; contracting staff to undertake small jobs and projects not undertaken by HfI.
- Supervising Caretaker, Cleaner and any other staff in their posts and oversee their payment; oversee volunteers.
- In association with the trustees, liaising with and managing the external relationships of the organisation including funders, the Local Authority, Homes for Islington, Charity Commission and others ensuring the needs and requirements of external stakeholders are met.
- Attendance at meetings of the trustees, providing a monthly written report including relevant financial information and monitoring data; providing verbal reports at other times requested.
- Ensuring that HHCA complies with all relevant legislation including child protection, the Data Protection Act, Health and Safety and others.
- Understanding current Government and Local Authority policy regarding voluntary organisations such as HCCA, and use this knowledge to identify opportunities for the Association to develop.
- Overseeing use of storage space.
- Overseeing correspondence and other administration.
- Ordering cleaning and other supplies as necessary.
- Overseeing the production and distribution of publicity about the centre including production of reviews and newsletters; implementing and monitoring both local and borough promotions of HH; updating and developing website.
- Research potential fundraising opportunities and implement fundraising initiatives in association with trustees.
- Providing 2 hours direct training to work experience trainees; supervising work experience trainees to undertake duties as appropriate.
- Undertaking any other duties as may be reasonable requested by the trustees.
Person specification
Essential:
- At least two years experience of taking a leadership role that involves managing groups in the community.
- Experience of building management.
- Experience of supervision of staff and volunteers.
- The ability to understand voluntary sector finance and accounts and experience of budget setting, budget management and income generation.
- Demonstrable success in fundraising.
- The ability to develop relationships with trustees, user groups, stakeholders, funders and members.
- The ability to maintain strong professional boundaries whilst being approachable; being able to say no firmly when necessary.
- Skills in conflict resolution; the ability to calmly facilitate progress in potentially highly charged situations.
- Willingness and flexibility to work occasional evening and weekend duties if required.
- Advanced and self sufficient at using IT applications such as Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint; able to develop HH website.
- An ability to plan, prioritise and complete tasks quickly and effectively
- An ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Understanding of equal opportunities policy in relation to the work of the Association.
Desirable
- Experience and/or knowledge of providing social, educational and recreational services.
- Experience of organising events.
- Education beyond secondary level e.g. college/university or through open/distance learning.
- Experience of providing training.
