Introduction
The prairies are a dry ecozone that has very fertile soils. This ecozone is located in the south parts of Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
Landform Region
· The prairies are located in the interior plains region.
· The Prairies were formed by Glaciation erosion this flattened out the region and has made the soil very fertile.
Rocks and Minerals
· The Prairies are made up of sedimentary rock.
· Some rocks that have been left by glacial erosion are gravel and quartzite.
Vegetation and soil
· The growing season in the prairies in 170-190 days
· Located in the dry climate soil region.
· Located in the grasslands vegetation region.
· Aspen, willow and spruce trees grow to the east of this ecozone.
· Grain, barley and oats are grown in this region.
· Dryer locations in this region are used for animal grazing.
