ADVANCED ATHLETIC STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING SYLLABUS Co-Ed Course

Semester Course Grades 9-12 Prerequisite: “B” or above in Beginning, athletic or advanced and or instructors’ permission
This course is designed for the athlete most serious about enhancing their physical abilities. Major emphasis is on speed and agility development. This is accomplished through strength and power resistance work in the weight room, advanced agility drills, advanced upper and lower body plyometrics, and speed enhancement drills. His course may be repeated with the completion of a “B” or above or with the instructors permission. One course per semester.

Missing Assignments: Must be turned in by the end of the Unit for Full Credit
Student Athlete Responsibilities: No Exception
Policy for Quizzes and Exams: Unexcused cannot be made up
Excused a day get a day etc.
Participation Makeups: Before School, After School, Lunch Hour, Seminar etc. Made up by the end of each 6 week period
Grade Update:Daily
Extra Credit:less than 5% of Daily Grade
Grades will be determined from a daily point grade, written work and physical improvement through the course of the semester.
Each participation day each student will have the opportunity to earn 20 points. This will include being on time (tardies up to 5 minutes = - 3 pts, up to 10 minutes = - 6 pts. Etc) lockerroom behavior, and work habits. Students must be dressed out fully to participate in the class period activities and have an opportunity to earn the daily points. Written work will be figured into the daily point totals for grading purposes. Use and accurate usage of level sheets will also be figured into the daily totals.
Physical improvement throughout the semester will be 1/3 of the student’s final grade. Improvement will be determined using a pre and post conditioning test. Improvement will be determined from a whole of the conditioning test with the exception of an injury excused by a doctor.
GUIDELINES TO FOLLOW
- Report to the assigned area, line up for roll and be ready to warm up 5 minutes after the tardy bell.
- Carry and present yourself in a responsible manner at all times.
- The instructor is to be the only one to handle the stereo when in the weight room.
- Always use the time allotted to the fullest.
- Encourage the members within your group and class to work to their maximum potential. Competition will be individual or from group to group not from individual to individual
- Show respect for the equipment and facilities at all times. Pick up all equipment and return it to the proper location when instructed to. Keep weights off the floor.
- Do not bring food or drink to class.
- Do not leave the workout area without the instructor’s permission.
UNIFORMS REQUIRED
Shirts without buttons or zippers, shorts or sweats (not of denim) without exposed zippers or buttons, and workout shoes are to worn at all times.
LOCKS LOCKERROOM
The PE Department will furnish a locker and a lock for each student. A fee will be assessed for lost locks. Keep your locker locked at all times. Notify your instructor if your lock or locker does not operate correctly. Valuables are your responsibility to secure.
NON SUITS
In order to be excused from participation in class, students must have a note from a doctor, which has been presented, to the school nurse and the instructor. Modifications in participation will be made whenever needed, examples could include an injury to the lower or upper body which would not affect movements of the opposite or modifications in the assigned work could include a note from the nurse, which was preceded, by a parent note.

OBJECTIVES OF STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING
- Improvement of physical status in terms of strength and power through proper lifting and plyometric techniques.
- Improvement of physical status in terms of flexibility through proper lifting techniques and procedures, as well as proper flexibility training which will include dynamic and static movements.
- Improvement of physical status in terms of agility through proper agility drills.
- Improvement of physical status in terms of speed through proper applications of pylometrics, speed drills, speed technique training, and lifting procedures.
- The development of self-discipline through classroom structure.
- The development of self-efficacy through physical and mental growth.
- Develop the ability to work with others.
- The development of the ability to keep clear and concise records of workouts.
- To educate the students in proper lifting and flexibility techniques and the importance of proper technique.
- To instill the value of hard work and discipline.
- To educate the student in proper safety procedures when training.
- To develop a positive attitude toward exercise for physical and mental health.
- Improvement of body composition by increasing lean muscle tissue and reducing body fat.
- To instill the value of responsibility.
- To educate the student in basic principles of lifting theory.
- To instill basic knowledge of physiology and biomechanics as they relate to strength training.
- To educate the students on the importance of good nutrition and its role in health and performance.
