Minutes of meeting Monday 10 March 2014
1. Welcome and Apologies
Present: Kevin Kane (Chair), Tom Prentice (Minutes), Jan Ziervogel (Treasurer), Ann Downie, Kath Dransart, Susan Haynes, John Donnelly, Mrs Grant, Mrs Simpson

2. Minute and Matters Arising
Minutes of 17 February 2014 were approved and asked to be placed on the school website.
ACTION: Mrs Grant to look into the possibility of interaction between the PTC and Senior pupils.
3. Correspondence
None
4. Finance
The current balance in the PTC account is £4,057.46. Mrs Grant reported the PTC Purchase Fund contained £227.58 and the PTC Achievement Fund £1,335.5. Since the previous meeting, funds had been spent on assisting a visit by Cambridge University, the Football Club, Art & Craft Club and catering clothing for students. The PTC agreed to allow the Treasurer Jan Ziervogel to arrange to have on-line ‘delegate access’ to the PTC bank account; this allows ‘view only’ access. The Treasurer can view the current balance on the PTC account, but cannot make any transactions.
ACTION: Mrs Grant to encourage school departments to highlight areas which may benefit from PTC funding in 2014 with a report to be submitted to the PTC in May.
Jan Ziervogel to arrange for the necessary papers to be signed for Delegate Access and to have the bank re-address statements etc to the new treasurer.
5. Updating PTC pages on School Website
Tom Prentice reported that some preliminary changes had been made. General minutes from 2011 and 2012 had been removed, but AGM minutes from those years had been retained. Recent minutes had been updated and a list of Meeting Dates posted. ACTION: Kevin Kane to review PTC pages and come back with further comments and suggestions for the next meeting.
6. Head Teacher’s Report
Highlights of the Head Teacher’s report included:
· A study skills night had been arranged for S4/5/6 parents for 20 March
· A new layout to be introduced for the coming S3 parents’ night with more extensive use of the school hall and Social Area. PTC members to assist with teas & coffee etc.
· Shawlands’ gymnasts had finished 2nd and 3rd in the Scottish Sports Acrobatics Championship
· Shawlands had been offered the opportunity of sailing courses for students doing the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award
· Shawlands pupils had been offered places at an Outward Bound Course in August
· A 12 week rowing course had been offered to Shawlands pupils initially at the Scottish Rowing Centre, Strathclyde Park, then at the Clydesdale Boathouse, Glasgow Green
· The school was actively pursuing links with sporting bodies to offer basketball and hockey to pupils
· The Starchild Dinner / evening in early March had been a great success, raising £800 for an education project in Uganda
· Traffic and double parking outside the school at the end of the school day continued to endanger the lives of Shawlands Academy pupils. ACTION: Kevin Kane agreed to draft a letter to councillors on the issue
7. AOCB
Monday 12 May and Monday 9 June were agreed as the next meeting dates.
