Tufts Advising Options Survey Instructions

You have two options for pre-major advising:

  1. You can take an Advising Plus course with your pre-major advisor either teaching the course or tied to a course that is student-led.You will see your advisor for registration meetings and for conversations around and questions about your academic interests.
  2. You can elect Individualized Advising (IAO) and see your advisor for registration meetings and for conversations around and questions about your academic interests.

In each of these options, students will be assigned a faculty member or professional staff member to serve as a pre-major academic advisor. Pre-major advisors are assigned to students to support their transition into Tufts and to encourage intellectual curiosity. They are notmatched to students by intended academic interest. You will meet regularly with your academic advisor to discuss your transition, select courses, and eventually, choose a major and new advisor for that major.

Please note that your assignment to one of the advising options is done by lottery, based upon the preferences you submit AND available spaces. Students who are not able to be placed in a class will be assigned to Individualized Advising (IAO).

What you should do now:
  1. Check out the descriptions of the Advising Plus course options and Individualized Advising (including an infographic and videos)linked here. Think about what type of interaction with an academic advisor will work best for you.
