Work Staff Application

IS THIS FOR ME?

The list of “ideal qualities” is endless! No matter how many areas you feel confident in, there will always be others that need work. Because of the increasing complications of youth ministry in general and the challenge of working with teens, we would like for you to consider a few questions.

  1. Do I Love Teens?

I have a burden to reach every youth with the Gospel.

It’s hard to show God’s love to a young person when you’re not especially fond of God yourself. You need to enjoy being with kids. They’re the reason for being a volunteer with Club Beyond. It should be the rare occasion that a young person is an intrusion on your time. Give them your undivided attention. Spend time with them, discussing the things that are important to them. Pray for them by name. Realize that God loves them as much as He loves you. Look at them through His eyes.

2. Am I Willing to be Stretched Spiritually?

An Actively Growing and Maturing Christian

A Person of High Moral Standards

The most important quality young people can observe in adults is spiritual growth. We should never give the impression that we have “arrived” and that we are a superior Christian. It is important that young people realize that just because they make mistakes is no reason to give up or quit. So let us press on and encourage teens toward the high calling of Christ.

3. Am I Honest With My Feelings and Actions?

Accountable to God, Club Beyond Staff, Volunteers and Kids

Be transparent with your real feelings so the kids will feel free to express theirs. Always strive to keep a Christ-like attitude when facing situations. Young people see a fake ANY TIME & ANY PLACE! Be yourself. Be real! “The Word became flesh and dwelt among them.”

4. Do I Have A Good Attitude?

A Teachable Spirit

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Prov 4:23

ATTITUDE determines your ALTITUDE! Attitudes are far more potent than ACTIONS! It is entirely possible to do the RIGHT thing in the WRONG way! Young people are quick to reflect the attitude of their leaders!

I have read the above qualifications and agree to uphold them to the best of my ability.

Work Staff Expectations

Italy Beach Break 2010

Philosophy of a Work Staff Person:

A Work Staff person is a living representative of Jesus Christ. He/she has the opportunity to be a window through which the campers see Christ, particularly through their work and attitude towards their work. He/she has the privilege and responsibility of being Christianity in action. He/she is an example of a servant. Cost of work staff is $300 (given to MCYM by check or money order). You will also need to bring approximately $300 for lunches. You are responsible for your airfare to Italy.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Being on Work Staff is a privilege.
  2. We expect you to work hard, we need for you to help make this the best week of these kid’s lives!!
  3. Please do not worry about what you will be doing next but rather enjoy what you are doing presently. Sometimes you will be very busy and other times things will be slow. Your leader will give you directions as they come. Remember that you are not finished until you get the ok from your leader.
  4. Everything you do is significant; nothing is insignificant if done for the glory of God.
  5. Do all you can to build “esprit de corps” (group spirit) in your work assignments. Campers will see your love for each other and be drawn to that.

Spiritual Responsibilities:

  1. You have been chosen to be on work staff because of your faith in Jesus Christ. It should be your desire to have Christ in that place of prominence in your daily life. Campers will notice more about your faith through your actions than through anything you say. You are a living example of what God has done in the life of a high school student.
  2. Remember to leave time each day to pray and read the scriptures. This will help your strength to last through your weeks on work staff.

Work Staff Guidelines:

  1. You are asked to respect and follow the directions of your boss.
  2. You are expected to be “different” in your actions and language than the HS and MS students. Remember that you are an example of Christ to them and therefore you will be different.
  3. With this in mind we ask you to follow the following MCYM guidelines:
  4. You are asked to not have any public display of affection between members of the opposite sex. Remember that you are here to serve, not get a date!
  5. You are asked to refrain from smoking, drinking alcohol and using illegal drugs while you are on Work Staff.
  6. You are asked to wear modest bathing suits. This means one piece suits for women and swim shorts for men. No bikinis or Speedos!

I have read the above Italy Beach Break material and I am committed to following it as a MCYM Work Staff individual.

WORK STAFF BACKGROUND QUESTIONNAIRE

FOR WORK STAFF 2010

MCYM has always been about loving US military kids for Christ’s sake. But in today’s society our responsibility also includes protecting kids in some new ways. Major organizations that work with kids are all moving toward more stringent screening of staff and volunteers and we feel we must do the same. Thank you for your cooperation in filling out the following questionnaire.

CIRCLE

YesNo1. Have you ever been convicted of a crime of violence? *If you have been convicted of such an offense, please attach a statement or explanation, including nature of offense, date, court where conviction was entered and any other relevant information.

Yes No2. Have you ever been convicted of a sexual offense or offense relating to children? *If so, please attach a statement or explanation, including nature of offense, date, court where conviction was entered and any other relevant information.

Yes No3. Have you ever been the subject of an investigation or allegation of sexual misconduct, sexual harassment or other immoral behavior or conduct involving adults or children? *If so, please describe the circumstances and provide the name and address of the employer, educational institution, church or other organization where the investigation, review or complaint occurred.

*If you marked “Yes” to any questions above, we ask that you provide a complete explanation of the circumstances. If you feel there are any extenuating circumstances, such as your age at the time, please let us know. MCYM will evaluate your written explanation and may ask you to provide additional information. In addition, MCYM may determine that it needs to conduct an investigation and may require your assistance with this. While marking “Yes” to any of the questions above will not result in automatic disqualification from MCYM, MCYM may determine that an affirmative response would make an individual unfit for service or association with MCYM ministry. In all cases, MCYM reserves the right to determine, at its discretion, what action should be taken. If any of your responses or information provided on this form are untruthful or inaccurate, MCYM may determine that you are no longer qualified to be associated with the ministry in any capacity.

I understand that MCYM takes the issues of sexual misconduct and sexual harassment very seriously, and I believe with MCYM that it is critical to the mission and ministry that MCYM staff and volunteers conform to the highest standards of sexual morality and conduct. I realize that failure to comply with the conduct outlined in MCYM Sexual Misconduct Policy and Sexual Harassment Policy could result in disciplinary action and/or immediate discharge from this summer assignment at this MCYM property.

I authorize MCYM, in its discretion, to conduct a background check, which may include contacting previous employers, educational institutions, churches and other organizations with which I may have been involved, as well as check records of criminal arrests and civil judgments involving sexual assault, child abuse and molestation, sexual harassment, incidents of violence and other unlawful conduct.

MCYM - CLUB BEYOND

Statement of Faith

MCYM does not promote specific denominations, but rather communicates the basic tenants of faith in Christ. Our statement of faith, as found in our bylaws is as follows:

  1. There is one God who exists in three persons: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost.
  2. Christ is God’s Son and came to earth as God’s redemption for man.
  3. Man is sinful by nature.
  4. Christ died for our sins and conquered death through the resurrection.
  5. The Bible is God’s written word and a faithful account of these great Christian truths.
  6. All persons can become followers of Christ leading to a full, rewarding life.

MCYM’s mission statement as taken from the bylaws, reads as follows:

The mission and purpose of MCYM is to bring the good news and new life of Jesus Christ to the Junior and Senior High School aged dependents of Americans serving in, or in connection with, the Armed Forces of the United States of America. Spiritual, moral, and recreational programs are carried out in harmony with the teaching of the Bible and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the community of faith.

MCYM is principally an outreach ministry usually in the area outside of the continental United States. The term “outreach” ministry refers to the focus of ministry to young people not currently involved in a chapel youth program. MCYM intends to “win a hearing” with these teens, share the love of Christ with them through staff role modeling, and disciple them into the church or chapel of their family faith background.

I have read the above Statement of Faith and according to my faith background, I understand and believe them to be true in my life.
