Request for In Principle Review of Research Protocol and Release of Funds

The three national granting councils (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) and other research funding agencies/departments stipulate that the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) cannot release funds for research projects involving human participants until those projects have received ethical approval from the Human Research Ethics Board (HREB). ‘In principle review’ permits researchers to access a portion of their research grants, as long as no data is collected from human participants. No research involving data collection from human participants can begin until full HREB approval has been obtained.

In accordance with the Tri-Council requirements, and the MOU between UFV and the agencies, funds will not be released for research projects involving human participants unless:

1.  This form has been reviewed and signed by the Chair of the UFV HREB within 6 months of the award date, or;

2.  A full ethics application has been reviewed and cleared by the UFV HREB.

Please refer to UFV Policy 54 Human Research Ethics prior to completion and submission of this application. Reviews are conducted according to the principles and spirit of the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans 2014 (TCPS2).

If you have questions about or require assistance with the completion of this form, please contact the Office of Research, Engagement and Graduate Studies at (604)-557-4011 or .
