Drama is a key aspect of the English curriculum. While plays are read in class, the actual performance is the end result of the text.
Santa Clarita offers a rich variety of dramatic offerings for your viewing pleasure, in addition to the even more numerous presentations throughout Los Angeles County. We would like to encourage you to take in one of the many shows and let us know what you thought of it.
The extra credit drama review:
This assignment is open to every student once per semester and is worth 20 points. For the first term, the deadline is May 28, 2013. You are encouraged to attend a theatrical production, preferably one at our school, and write a one-page review of the show. In addition, please attach your ticket/playbill (which will be returned to you). The review should be one page typed, or two pages handwritten.
The style should feature an opening paragraph mentioning the show and whether you recommend it.
The next two paragraphs should explain a brief summary of the plot (without giving everything away) and your supported comments on why the show was so great or poor.
Use the playbill to help you with spelling of the names of the actors, director, author, etc.
Be critical. Say what you liked or disliked about the production, but support your arguments. Once you make a statement, explain why that is true and how you came to that opinion.
This is a persuasive opinion piece, so you may use the word “I” in the article, but use it sparingly. In the final paragraph, give us a strong conclusion. Note: you are not limited to four paragraphs, but there is no need to compose several pages.
On the reverse side we have listed the variety of dramatic offerings that we are currently aware of in this valley. As we learn of more, these will be posted in the classroom.
If you have limitations in your schedule or resources making it difficult to take in a live show, please let us know so that we work out an equitable task for you.
One reminder, this is solely for extra credit and it is not a required assignment for this class. As always, if you have questions on this or any other class assignments, please arrange time to talk with your teacher.
Note, some shows may have controversial subject matter. Please discuss anyproduction with your parents/guardians before attending.

Many small (non-school) theaters use to fill seats. They sell tickets at half of the usual full price, plus a small service fee. Repertory East Playhouse, Canyon Theatre Guild,and A Noise Within in Pasadenause it.
