COURSE EXPECTATIONS-Psych 11

Congratulations! You have become one of the first SRT students to enroll in Psychology. This is an exciting course that is literally jam packed with terminology and case studies. Although it is an elective it is very rich in terms of curriculum and content. I have ordered a set of textbooks so that we don’t have to copy, fuss and/or fight over them! Please respect this privilege. I can relate to how difficult it is to have to share or not have the leisure of reading your book wherever you like!

The Textbook. Understanding Psychology, Richard A Kasschau, 2008, Glencoe/McGraw-Hill. The text for this course is VERY expensive in comparison to some other books and they are not easily replaced. Each textbook costs $100.00 therefore you are asked to treat your book with care. In the event of loss, theft or extensive damage you will need to pay the replacement cost so that we can order another for the next student who may sit in your space next year.

Attendance: Regular attendance is expected. In the event of an absence, the student is responsible for making up missed work. I may ask for a note from your parent if absenteeism begins to be a problem. IF you are having any difficulties, please see me as soon as they arise. DO NOT wait until the last minute.

Evaluation: Assessment will be as follows

65% Written work, Quizzes and Projects/Presentations

25 % Journal Entries/Communication

10% Participation

Student Signature: ______

Keys to success in the course:

  • Ask questions- in class, by email or during afterschool tutorials. Never assume!
  • Ask for my help to clarify assignment criteria or for project ideas.
  • Take notes-successful students take notes in class and during reading; then review them periodically.
  • Have an organized binder and some place to remind you of tests and due dates.
  • Have a class buddy to contact if you miss a day. Pick a buddy who is organized and engaged in the class!

The Classroom Expectations are Simple:

BE PREPARED: Students are expected to bring all necessary materials to class, including pens, paper, a binder and the textbook.

BE ON TIME:Students must be on time!!!! Persistent lates will be dealt with accordingly.

BE RESPECTFUL:Listening and communicating respectfully is a MUST! Interruptions, rudeness and negativity will not be tolerated in this class.

BE RESPONSIBLE: This is a senior course, handing in homework and assignments on time is expected. Life happens, if you cannot hand in a project on time talk to me the class before the work is due for a possible extension.

CELL PHONE AND MP3 USE IS NOT PERMITTED IN CLASS.THESE DEVICES MUST BE TURNED OFF AND BE OUT OF SIGHT DURING CLASS TIME PLEASE.

The Course: This is an academic elective, and will include readings, assignments and projects.A typical class will involve: instruction, readings, class discussion, group work, presentations, and videos.
