‘Being the best we can be’

Listening and Learning Respecting and Caring Trusting and forgiving

Helping and Supporting Smiling and Inspiring.

Dear Parents,

What wonderful collection of books characters we had this week! Thank you very much to parents and children who went to so much trouble not to come to school as film / action figures. The costumes and characters were fantastic!

Gangster Granny rubbed shoulders with Harry Potter, Frankie the football sat next to the Oxford English dictionary and Tris with the Artful Dodger in our assembly!

Our Artist in residence, Megan Davies, worked with class 1 on interpreting classic books with the children. Class 1 – The Owl Babies, this fitted in beautifully with our work with the new chicks. Class 2 created collage inspired by the Phoenix and the Carpet by E Nesbit and Class 3 created their own Iron Man based on Ted Hughes books of the same name. I am looking forward to some impressive displays in school.

Last but not least, can I thank all the staff who dressed up as characters from Alice in Wonderland –we have had a great idea for next year!!

Some books that children’s characters came from:

Becky was Tis from -Divergent – Veronica Roth – Upper Key stage 2

Xander was Tobias from - The Pirate’s Diaries – Richard Platt – upper key stage 2

Ruby was Katniss from - The Hunger Games – Suzanne Collins – Upper key stage 2

Thomas as both George and Fred Weasley from Harry Potter by JK Rowling – Key stage 2

Cameron and Elliott were - Frankie the Magic footballer – Frank Lampard- Lower Key stage 2

William was - Gangster Granny – David Walliams- Lower Key stage 1 and key stage 1

Isabelle was – Anantol the mouse from Anatole – Eve Titus- Lower Key stage 1 and key stage 1

Zaine was Thing 1 from Dr Suss – All ages

George Was Pirate inspired from a non-fiction text

And Zan was a knight inspired by King Arthur and Hector and the Bad Knight – key stage 1

Other excellent creations were Mya as the Oxford English dictionary and Ryu as the Artful Dodger from Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens.

This week sees the start of our ‘good news’ postcards. Staff will be writing to families with good news about your child, this will be anything from showing resilience in their learning, fantastic attendance and no lateness, to being the best they can be, up holding our guiding principles and also being an all-round super person!

We still reward children for kindness, thoughtfulness and excellent behaviour with our pennies of kindness.

The chicks from ‘Living Eggs’ have been very popular, once again, in class 1. The children’s writing, maths work has been inspired this week!

Looking forward- we will be hosting an Olympic champion and fund raising for sports equipment and the Olympic sports people.

Easter Bingo is round the corner – I hope you have got your tickets!

I look forward to seeing you all at the parents evenings next week. We will be surveying parents on what workshops they would like to attend in school.

We are very proud of being a Healthy eating school. Over the last few weeks we have noticed sweets and chocolates creeping into the children’s lunchboxes. We would like to encourage more fruit and healthy snacks please.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend
