Panel 1. Migrant Youth: Assessing Health Related Risks and Migration Trends
Abstract:This session will establish specific short and long term health risks challenging the well-being of young generations of migrants. The health of many migrants is at particular risk due to abuse, violence, exploitation, discrimination and barriers to access health and social services. Barriers include high costs, language, cultural difference, administrative hurdles, and lack of information about entitlements or legal status. This session will also analyse current migration trends providing up to date statistics on stock and flows of youth migrants. It will identify overarching issues pertinent to the gathering of reliable data concerning young migrants as definitions lacking consensus and dissimilar methodological approaches may impair evidence-based policy and programme implementation.
