LLB UPGRADES/TOP UPS

The LLB upgrades/top ups to the Graduate Diploma in Law programmes offered by some institutions are not recognised by the BSB as Qualifying Law Degreesas commonly understood, or as set out in the Joint Statement on Qualifying Law Degrees; however, this does not affect the status of the Graduate Diploma in Law which, if successfully completed, will satisfy the regulatory bodies’ requirements of the Academic Stage of training.Please contact the institution(s) concerned if you have any queries about these awards.

AWARD OF LLB AFTER COMPLETION OF THE GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN LAW AND THE BAR PROFESSIONAL TRAINING COURSE

A number of institutions award an LLB to students who have successfully completed their Graduate Diploma in Law together with the Bar Professional Training Course. These awards are not recognised by the BSB as Qualifying Law Degrees as commonly understood, or as set out in the Joint Statement on Qualifying Law Degrees; however, this does not affect the status of the Graduate Diploma in Law which, if successfully completed, will satisfy the regulatory bodies’ requirements of the Academic Stage of training, or the status of the Bar Professional Training Course, which, if successfully completed, will satisfy, in part, the BSB's requirements of the Vocational Stage of training. IMPORTANT NOTICE TO INSTITUTIONS

Any institution wishing to introduce a CPE programme must ensure that the programme has been validated by the Bar Standards Board and Solicitors Regulation Authority no later than end of February preceding the academic year in which the course is due to commence. Any institution wishing to introduce a CPE programme must contact the SRA at no later than the end of November preceding the academic year in which the course is due to commence.
