Miss Keeler’s Course Syllabus

COURSE
DESCRIPTION / This course is designed to present a variety of scientific concepts in the field of Chemistry. This course is very mathematically oriented, and will use a quantitative as well as a qualitative approach and will integrate classroom presentations with hands-on laboratory activities.

3. Paper, pencils, graph paper, etc.
GRADES / Course grades are determined by the total points a student earns on all assigned work within a weighted category.
Categories and their percent weight are as follows:
HOMEWORK/CLASSWORK / 20%
LAB REPORTS / 20%
LABORATORY/CLASSROOM PARTICIPATION / 5%

TESTS & QUIZZES

/ 40%

TERM FINAL

/ 15%
Homework; Homework will be assigned on most nights, and will be due the following day unless otherwise stated. Homework is to be submitted online before the class period begins. At the teacher’s discretion a homework quiz may be given.
Classwork: Some assignments completed during class will be collected; classwork to be collected may be announced or unannounced.
Labs: Points will be given for both participation/correct performance of the lab as well as for lab reports and quizzes. The format of lab reports will vary according to lab activity and may include a lab write up, lab quiz of another form of assessment. (Don’t worry, we’ll go over these as they come up).
Tests/Quizzes: Scheduled during class periods, tests will cover reading material and material presented during lectures and discussions. A variety of question formats will be used. Quizzes are closed book with questions covering text and lecture material. Quizzes may be announced or unannounced. Lowest test score will be dropped if homework/classwork grade is a 95% or higher.
Term Final: Cumulative test given at the end of the semester.
The Final Grade will be based on the following percentages:
98-100% = A+ 73-77% = C
93-97% = A 70-72% = C-
90-92% = A- 68-69 % = D+
88-89% = B+ 63-67% = D
83-87% = B 60-62% = D-
80-82% = B- 59% and below = F / no credit
78-79% = C+
ATTENDANCE & MAKE-UP WORK / Absences: In the event of an absence, it is YOUR responsibility to find out what you missed and arrange to make it up. See class website for agenda. There will be specific days when labs, tests & quizzes can be made up at lunch or after school. All work must be made up within a period of time equal to the number of days missed.
Late Work: All late work is to be turned in online in the appropriate place. Late work will receive a maximum of 50% credit.
Tardies: The school policy on tardies will be followed.
Unexcused Absences: The school policy for unexcused absences will be followed.
EXPECTATIONS / 1) Any disruptive behavior is prohibited. Courteous, responsible behavior is expected at all times.
2) Disrespectful actions, language and/or gestures will not be tolerated.
3) Do not mark or write on desks, chairs or counter tops.
4) Dismissal from class is at the teacher’s discretion, not at the bell. Your seating area and lab area must be clean prior to dismissal.
5) Follow lab safety rules at all times.
6) When the bell rings you should be in your seat working on the warm-up, with your homework out on your desk.
Cheating and plagiarism are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Any infringement will result in a zero on that assignment/test/etc. and a referral will be turned in to administration. Collaboration is different from copying; any work you submit should be your own! (See Academic Honesty policy for additional consequences).
