MT PROSPECT DISTRICT TENNIS ASSOCIATION SATURDAY AFTERNOON COMPETITION RULES

ELIGIBILITY

  1. A player may only play in one team in one afternoon

REGISTERED PLAYERS

  1. Players who are listed on the official team entry sheets (up to four men and four ladies)must become a financial member of the Association, This fee is to be set each year by the senior sub committee/executive committee

NAMED PLAYERS

  1. Teams shall name with the approval of the sub committee, their best two men and two ladies “named players” and such players then cannot interchange between teams, in the same grade. They can however play in a grade higher

LISTED PLAYERS

  1. The other remaining players, recorded on the official team sheet, are known as “listed players” and may fill in with any other team in their grade, or a grade above.
  2. Both “Named players” and “Listed players” players may play a maximum of 4 matches in any one team, apart from their own team. If a “named player” or “listed player” plays 5 games with the same team, in a higher grade, that player is then tied to that team.
  3. Listed players may play a maximum of 3 games in a lower grade

POOL PLAYERS

  1. Any person not named on the official team entry sheet, is deemed a “pool” player and may fill in for any team. Once that player has played 3 matches with any team, they must become a financial member of the association. Once a “pool” player has played 5 games with the one team, they are tied to that team for the rest of the season.

ELIGIBILITY FOR FINALS

  1. All players (“named”, “listed” and “pool”) must play 5 home and away matches with that team, during that season, to be eligible to play finals. A player may only play in one association Grand Final, Preliminary Final or Semi Final. Any player who is unable to qualify through accident, illness or other misfortune can be granted permission by the Senior Sub Committee

TEAM ENTRIES

  1. Each team shall forward to the Senior Director/Sub Committee a list of its players in its team

DISPUTES AND PROTESTS

  1. All teams referring disputes to the Association, shall forward particulars in writing, of the matter in dispute, to the Senior Director by 8.00pm on the Tuesday after the match. The Senior Sub Committee will hear the full evidence of both teams concerned and shall give the decision no later than the following Friday. In all cases the decisions of the Sub Committee shall be final

FORFEITS

  1. Any team which forfeits a match or matches shall be fined the teams ball fees, for that day, provided that it notifies the Senior Director/Senior Sub Committee no later than 9.00am on the day of the match. A team failing to do this shall be fined the ball fees of both teams

DRESS

  1. Regulation tennis attire must be worn by participating players in matches. Regulation tennis footwear of flat rubber soles are to be worn

REFEREE

  1. A referee may be appointed by the Senior Director/Senior Sub Committee and he/she reserves the right to control all matches and finals

TIME OF COMMENCEMENT

  1. All matches will commence by 1.00pm and conclude by 6.30pm

PLAYERS AT COURTS

  1. All players must be at the courts no later than 1.45pm or as mutually arranged between the two teams

DUTIES OF CAPTAINS

  1. Before any match commences, each captain must submit to the opposing captain, the scorecard with the names of his team in playing order.

PLAYERS ABSENT OR INJURED

  1. If after a players name have been handed to the opposing captain, a player is absent or are incapacitated by injury or illness, during a set, then that set will be forfeited. The captain will have the right to substitute another registered player, of similar ability. The two captains shall decide by mutual consent where the substitute player shall be placed. Failing agreement, the opposing Captain shall have the final say in placing of the substituted player

FORMAT OF MATCHES

  1. Matches shall consist of 9 sets, three mens doubles, three ladies doubles and three mixed doubles and all sets are to be played if time permits. Captains may change the order of sets, by mutual agreement. Results of matches shall be decided on games but in the event of a draw, the match shall be decided on sets.
  2. In A2 grade, a male may play as a female. In all other grades, 3 men and 3 women are to play each match

GAMES IN SETS

  1. In all senior grades, an 8 game set shall be played with a tie break to be played at 7 games all. The Senior Directors/Senior Sub Committee has the right to reduce the number of games in sets in special circumstances and the association will provide all balls to be used in all matches

POINTS

  1. Premiership points for home and away matches shall be awarded – 1 point for every set won and three points for winning the match. In a forfeit, all points are allotted to the team receiving the forfeit – 12 points

WET WEATHER/HEAT COMMITTEE

  1. The Senior Director/Senior Sub Committee may co-opt any other member of the association to form a weather committee who shall have the power to cancel the days matches, with all team captains notified by text. The Tennis Australia Extreme Heat Policy will be followed by the association

RAIN TERMINATING PLAY

  1. In the event of rain or other circumstances preventing the completion of matches, play must continue past 3.00pm to constitute a match. If matches are cancelled after 3.00pm, the scores at the time will determine the match result. Any sets not played/completed will not get any points allocated

SCORE SHEETS

  1. The captain of the winning team must leave the score card, with the correct names of players and the result of the match, at the office, on completion of the match
