Post Summary

This role is to provide support to the Packaging Development Manager(PDM) on the technical aspects of our Packaging. The role mainly covers the Ochils site but has some aspects relating to other sites. Areas covered include Specification Maintenance, Packaging Origination, and support for NPD and VE projects.

Duties and Responsibilities will include but will not be confined to:

  1. Packaging Specifications
  2. (Ochils site only)Support PDM to ensure that we have Packaging specifications agreed with all suppliers that are fit-for-purpose (for Consumer, Manufacturing, Logistics) and up-to-date.
  3. Support trial work on specific resins for use in Preforms and Closures
  4. (Ochils site only)Organise (and assist with) Factory and Transit trials to approve new specifications or new suppliers
  5. Maintain/issue all internal system GTIN codes to support goods receipt process.
  1. Packaging Development (NPD/EPD)
  2. Support Marketing and Innovation teams in trialling and approving new Packaging specifications
  3. Assist with the assessment of new concepts
  1. Packaging Non-Compliance Management (Ochils site only)
  2. Investigate all Packaging Non-Compliance issues (logged in the Highland Spring AIR system)
  3. Identify cause and improvement actions required
  4. Ensure that Non-Compliance issues are “closed out” as required
  1. Packaging Origination(Branded Packaging and Ochils Own-Label only)
  1. Bring technical expertise to the design, artwork, repro and print processes to ensure accurate representation and the correct incorporation of all marketing, legal and technical elements (e.g. cutter profile, EAN, GTIN)
  2. Maintain an electronic library of printed designs for internal database.
  1. Value Engineering (VE)
  2. Identify and Manage initiatives to reduce the total cost of packaging materials used in our products
  3. Support Engineering in Packaging-related line improvement project activity.

Skills Abilities /
  • Computer literate, with good working knowledge of Excel, WordPowerPoint
  • Good planning, time management and organisational skills
  • Strong communication skills (written, oral and non-verbal)
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with key stakeholders at all organisational levels (internal and external)

  • Experience of report writing and creating presentations
  • Strong Influencing skills

Experience & Qualifications /
  • Good knowledge and understanding of a range of packaging materials
  • 2 years working in Packaging related roles in the Drinks/FMCG/Household sectors
  • Experience of the Packaging Origination process

  • Knowledge of blow- and injection-moulded packaging and resin specifications
  • Experience of Glass, Labels and Shrink
  • Degree in a Technical/Design/ Materials/Engineering function
  • Certificate/Diploma in Pkg Technology
