Notice of Race under the Racing Rules of Sailing

Weekend 21st-22nd April 2018
High Tides 16.25 (4.5m) and 17.28(4.3m) respectively
Registration at BSC from 08.30 until 11.00 each day.
Briefing 11.00am Saturday 3rd Bosham Quay
Races to start from a Committee Boat in the area between Cobnor Point and Thorney Channel, Chichester Harbour.
Courses using Harbour marks to be sailed.
Saturday 21st3 races back-to-back 1st start 12.30
Sunday 22nd3 races back-to-back 1st start 12.30
Three races shall constitute a series. Discards for the overall result shall be: 4-6 races, 1.
Prizes for individual days may be given.
Prize giving Sunday after 14.30 - Bosham Sailing Club
Laminated charts of the harbour with marked buoys will be supplied.
For those boats not displaying a Conservancy Plaque indicating payment of harbour dues for 2018, a pass for the weekend must be purchased through BSC at registration (£2)

Boat storage available overnight Bosham Sailing Club, Dinghy Park. Please do not leave your boats on the quay overnight unless you have a regular berth.
No parking for cars in the vicinity of the quay, please use District Council car park in village.
Sailing instructions, details of accommodation etc will be available on the Bosham Sailing Club website Look under ‘race management’ and click on “Open Sailing Instructions - Bosham Quay”. Particular attention is drawn to S.I. 10.4 (Harbour marks)
Supper will be available at Bosham Sailing Club. Please email your supper order to Dick Pratt by Friday lunchtime (20th April) to . Menus to follow. Pay on the night.Teas will be served after racing on Saturday & Sunday in the bar of the clubhouse
Request for assistance with accommodation with members of BSC should be addressed to in the first instance in good time.
- Organising Authority: Bosham Sailing Club.
- Rules: Racing will be governed by the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing 2017-2020, the Prescriptions of the RYA, this Notice of Race, the Sailing Instructions issued for this event and the class rules. In the event of a conflict, the sailing instructions shall take precedence.
- Advertising: Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the organising authority.
- Eligibility: The event is open to all paid up members of the British Finn Association and or international associations. All boats and personal equipment may be subject to checks to confirm adherence to class rules.
- Entry fee: The entry fee for the event is £30. Entries may be completed at registration on Saturday 21st April
- Registration: Registration will be from BSC from 08.30 until 11.00 each day.
- Races: There will be a maximum of 6 races. The first race will not start before 12:30 on Saturday. The last race will not start after 15:30 on Sunday. The target duration of each race will be 45 minutes. Three races shall constitute a series. Discards shall be: 4-6 races, 1.
- Briefing: There will be a competitors briefing 11.00am Saturday 21st, Bosham Quay
- Sailing Instructions: The sailing instructions will be issued at registration.
- Race area: The race area will be in the area south-west of Cobnor Point in Chichester Harbour
- Class Flag: The class flag shall be Code Flag J.
- Risk Statement: Rule 4 of the RRS states: “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or continue to race is hers alone” and that sailing is by its nature an unpredictable sport and therefore inherently involves an element of risk. By taking part in the event, each competitor agrees and acknowledges that:
- They are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport and accept responsibility for the exposure of themselves, their crew and their boat to such inherent risk whilst taking part in the event;
- They are responsible for the safety of themselves, their crew, their boat and their other property whether afloat or ashore;
- They accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss to the extent caused by their own actions or omissions;
- Their boat is in good order, equipped to sail in the event and they are fit to participate;
- The provision of a race management team, patrol boats if any and other officials and volunteers by the event organiser does not relieve them of their own responsibilities;
- The provision of patrol boat cover if any is limited to such assistance, particularly in extreme weather conditions, as can practically be provided in the circumstances;
- Personal buoyancy shall be worn by all competitors whilst afloat;
- Their boat is required to hold adequate insurance and in particular, to hold insurance against third party claims in the sum of at least £2,000,000.
- Prizes: will be awarded to the lowest scoring helms over the two days taking into account discards as in point 7 above. Other prizes may also be awardedto the lowest scoring helms for each of the two days (no discards).
- Social: The entry fee includes afternoon tea each day. An evening dinner has been arranged for Finn sailors at Bosham SC at 18:00 on Saturday evening.
