2016 Canby Invitational Tournament Rules
The NFHS Basketball Rules will be applied except for several modifications listed below. You will also find brief synopsis of the major rules and regulations. ALL COACHES AND PLAYERS WILL abide by the rules. Failure to do so may result in disqualification and or ejection from the tournament.
1. Players may only play for one team and one team only the entire tournament, NO EXCEPTIONS. Teams and players that violate this rule are subject to immediate disqualification from the tournament.
2. The HOME team will be the first or top team listed on the bracket and will wear LIGHT uniforms, the visitor DARK uniforms.
3. A team must begin the game with five players, but if it has no substitutes to replace disqualified or injured players, it may continue with fewer than five.
4. Playing time shall be four quarters of eight minutes each with intermissions of one minute after the first and third quarter and five minutes between halves. Warm-up time will be no less than five minutes.
5. Each team will have two 60 second and two 30 second timeouts to use during regulation.
6. If overtime is required play shall continue without change of baskets. The length of the first extra period shall be 2 minutes and one minute there after. Each team will have one 60 second timeout. Timeouts from regulation and or previous overtimes will NOT carry over.
7. In the event the score differential becomes greater than 20 points, backcourt pressure will not be permitted. Failure to follow this rule will result in a team technical foul.
8. In the event the score differential becomes greater than 20 points before or during the last two minutes of the final period the clock will continue to run except for during a timeout.
9. Each player is permitted five fouls. Upon receipt of the fifth foul that player will be disqualified. Once a team has accumulated seven team fouls the opposing team will shoot one-and-one, at the tenth fouls two shots will be administered. Technical fouls assessed to players will count as team fouls. If a player control foul occurs while a team is in the bonus, NO free throws will be administered.
10. Coaches must remain in the coaches box at all times. The coach’s’ box is the clearly marked box in front of the bench, or defined by game officials. Failure to remain in the coach’s’ box may result in a technical foul and or disqualification from the tournament.
11. TECHNICAL FOULS – A technical foul will be assed to a coach or player for acts or conduct such as: disrespectfully addressing or contacting an official or gesturing in such a manner as to indicate resentment or using profane or inappropriate language or obscene gestures.
Coaches – Upon receipt of first technical foul the coach will be restricted to the bench for the remainder of that game. Upon receipt of second technical foul the coach will be ejected from the game and the tournament for the remainder of that day. Ejections may be appealed to the tournament director no earlier than 15 minutes after ejection (cool down time).
Players – Upon receipt of first technical foul the player will be restricted to the bench for the remainder of that quarter. Upon receipt of second technical foul the player will be ejected from the game and the tournament for the remainder of that day. Player ejections may not be appealed.
12. 5TH GRADEONLY – Teams must play a man-to-man defense, NO ZONE PERIOD. Backcourt man-to-man press is permitted although Rules 7 & 8 still apply. Also no defensive trapping is permitted – front or backcourt.
