How is the scholar selected?

Eligible individuals who have submitted a complete nomination package by the deadline will be considered. The selection process will include a panel of 3-6 individuals consisting of at least two Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology staff. Other reviewers may include individuals from the Milburn family orarea industry representatives. The three major components for this scholarship are academic achievement, passion for healthcare and education, and leadership potential.

Application Package:

A complete application package will consist of a completed application, an official transcript, an essay outlining the individual’s leadership potential and why an education and a career in the healthcare / biotechnology field are important, and a letter of acceptance to a post secondary institution.

Requirements:

  1. Student must be a senior who is eligible for graduation
  2. Student must be planning on pursing a career in health care or biotechnology
  3. High school weighted G.P.A. (9th – 12th grade) must be 3.5 or higher
  4. Student must have been a HOSA member for at least one of their 4 years in high school

Amount of Scholarship:

$500 or higher depending on funds. Amount to be determined in January each year.
