SC Regions Project

We have begun our study of SC history in SS. This week, we learned about “Where We Are” and the 6 regions of SC. As a way for your child to learn these, as well as making it fun, students need to create the following project based on the guidelines below. The template to use is attached to this sheet.

Materials Needed:

Poster board

Glue

Materials to cover regions – your choice- (just no food please)

Pencil, crayons, colored pencils

*computer, letters, stamps, etc. for title (this is up to you)

  • Using a piece of small size poster board (you can cut a large one in half or buy it already cut at Walmart, Big Lots, Target, etc), cut out the SC template and glue it, correctly, in center of board. (Please note how SC is shaped and glue on board accordingly.) Trace the different sections/regions before getting started with marker, yarn, pipe cleaners, puff paint, etc. so you will know where to cover the region exactly.
  • Next, create each region of SC by covering it in the material you have chosen. Each region should have a different covering. See examples on my website or see suggestions at bottom.
  • Using a pencil, crayon, colored pencil, or type it - label each region outside the area. You can do this on both sides of the SC template to spread the words out. Be sure to neatly draw a line or arrow pointing to the section so I will know where you are talking about.
  • Use a computer to type or use pre-cut letters from store, letter stamps, or your absolute best handwriting, add the following title to the top of your poster –

The Regions of South Carolina.

  • Put your name on bottom right on the front of the poster board.
  • Project must be neat, have secure items, and legible (I can read it).
  • Due date – Thursday, Oct. 4. No late projects will be accepted. This counts as 2 major test grades. Please let your child complete this activity. There is a difference between their work and an adults . Give this project several days to dry, please. Bring in flat…do not roll it up.

Suggestions to cover regions:

  • Clay or PlayDoh (mold into shape of what is found there: mountains, trees, water), real sand/grass, construction paper pieces, sequins, pompoms, any type of craft materials, or project material found at craft stores, etc. There is no wrong material. Be creative! Just NO coloring of regions or food due to pests. All items MUST stay on poster when hung. Use lots of glue but let it dry for a long time!
