A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE JEFFERSON DAVIS ACADEMY “LADY RAIDERS” BASKETBALL TEAM OF BAMBERG COUNTY ON THEIR STATE INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIP, AND HONORING THE PLAYERS AND COACH ROBYNE JOYNER.

Whereas, the Jefferson Davis Academy “Lady Raiders” of Bamberg County capped their outstanding 2004 basketball season by taking the SCISAA Class A state title with a 3935 win over Wardlaw Academy; and

Whereas, the hardfought victory was truly a team effort and was not decided until the final moments of the game, with the Lady Raiders entering the fourth quarter behind 3331 and yet outscoring their opponent 82 to win; and

Whereas, the Lady Raiders won the state championship from 19992002 and finished in the finals in 2003 and 2004, with this victory bringing the title back to Coach Robyne Joyner’s Raiders; and

Whereas, the Raiders finish their winning season with an outstanding record of 252, bringing Coach Joyner and her Lady Raiders to an overall coaching record of 468 wins and 86 losses; and

Whereas, for her hand in the 2005 season, Coach Joyner was selected as the Times and Democrat, Advertiser Herald, and The High School Sports Report Coach of the Year for the 2005 basketball season; and

Whereas, this outstanding finish for the Jefferson Davis Academy Lady Raiders basketball team signifies that Coach Joyner’s Raiders are truly the team to beat in women’s basketball. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, do hereby congratulate the Jefferson Davis Academy Lady Raiders basketball team of Bamberg County on their 2004 South Carolina Independent School Athletic Association Class A state title, and honor the players and Coach Joyner on their impressive 252 season.
