POST: CLINICAL FELLOWINGENERAL SURGERY BASE:GLASGOWROYALINFIRMARY

Applications are invited for an ST level from as soon as possible until 31st July 2018 based within the General Surgical unit, General Surgery Department at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. This post also contributes to the General Surgical on call rota. Applicants should have completed training in Core Surgery and have passed the MRCS examination.

Trainingopportunitieswillbemadeavailabletothesuccessfulcandidate. However, this posthasnotbeenapprovedforTrainingpurposes byNES.

Topracticemedicinein the UKyou need tohold bothGMCregistrationand a license to practice.

1.BRIEF DESCRIPTIONOF THE DIVISION

AcuteServicesDivisionispartofNHSGreaterGlasgowandClyde and isthelargestAcuteDivisioninScotland.Itconsistsofmultiplesites; themainonesincludeGlasgowRoyalInfirmary,GartnavelGeneralHospital,StobhillandVictoriaAmbulatoryCareHospitals,theNew SouthernGeneralUniversityHospital.

TheDivisionprovidesacomprehensiverangeofservicesfrom community-basedcare(midwives,dentalservicesandvarious outreachservices)throughthefullrangeofgeneralhospitalservices throughtoregionalspecialistservices.Inadditionithascloselinks withtheUniversitiesinGreaterGlasgowandmakesasignificant contribution to teaching.

TheexpandedDivisionnowemploys44,000staffacrossitssites, makingit asignificantemployer.

2.DESCRIPTION OF THE HOSPITALS

GlasgowRoyal Infirmary

SituatedonCastleStreet,GlasgowRoyalInfirmary-orGRI-provides abroadrangeofregional,supra-regionalandnationalacuteclinical services.GRIprovidesspecialistservicesforColorectal,UpperGIand Pancreaticpatients.InPatientsurgeryiscarriedoutattheGRIsite, whileshortstayandDaycasesurgeryisprimarilyco-ordinatedthrough ACHat Stobhill.

Inrecentyearsa£60mcapitaldevelopment programmeattheGRIsite wascompletedtoincludeaPlasticSurgeryandBurnsUnit,inaddition toanewEmergencyReceivingCentre.Excellenteducationfacilities arealsoprovidedatGlasgowRoyalInfirmarywitharefurbishmentof the UniversityTower.

Thecreationofthesemajordevelopmentshassignificantlyimproved healthcarefacilitiesforthepeople of NorthGlasgow.

3.THE POST

4.DUTIES OF THE POST

ThispostisbasedinGeneralSurgicalDirectorate.Youwillbe affordedopportunitiestoworkwithinvarietyofgeneralsubspecialties, Thedutiesinvolvetheclinicalcareofacuteandelectiveadmissions andparticipation intheGeneral Surgeryemergencyrota.

5.TRAINING

Thesuccessfulapplicantwouldbeactivelyencouragedtobeinvolved in both undergraduateandpostgraduate teaching.

6.CONDITIONS OFAPPOINTMENT

ForallnewentrantstotheHealthServiceamedicalexaminationwill be requiredprior to confirmation of this appointment.

ImmunisationagainstHepatitis Bis advised. The appointmentisfulltime.
