A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND WALTER M. BAILEY, JR., FOR HIS DEDICATION TO SERVING THE PEOPLE OF DORCHESTER, ORANGEBURG, AND CALHOUN COUNTIES AND HIS UNWAVERING CONVICTIONS AS SOLICITOR OF THE FIRST JUDICIAL CIRCUIT UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Walter M. Bailey, Jr., retired as Solicitor of the First Judicial Circuit on Wednesday, December 31, 2003; and

Whereas, a native of Summerville, Walter Bailey graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1972, when he began working as a prosecutor; and

Whereas, Mr. Bailey was elected Solicitor of the First Judicial Circuit on January 1, 1993, and he has shared his perseverance and keenness for the law with the people of Dorchester, Orangeburg, and Calhoun Counties for the past eleven years; and

Whereas, during his tenure, Solicitor Walter Bailey served as Vice President and President of the South Carolina Solicitors’ Association; and

Whereas, Solicitor Walter Bailey humbly attributes much of his immense success to the staff he hired to assist him; and

Whereas, after wrapping up a few pending cases, Solicitor Bailey plans to spend more time with his family; and

Whereas, Walter Bailey will celebrate his accomplishments and his retirement with family and friends at a party on Thursday, March 4, 2003; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure and admiration that the members of the General Assembly recognize and extol Walter Bailey for his passion for the law and commitment to helping the citizens of Dorchester, Orangeburg, and Calhoun Counties upon his retirement as Solicitor of the First Judicial Circuit. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend Walter M. Bailey, Jr., for his dedication to serving the people of Dorchester, Orangeburg, and Calhoun Counties and his unwavering convictions as Solicitor of the First Judicial Circuit upon the occasion of his retirement and wish him much success and happiness in his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Solicitor Walter M. Bailey, Jr.
