Agenda / Discussion / DecisionMinutes from September Meeting / Motion to approve Mark

Update on interpreter training / The training info has been sent. Three people attended first training and 45 are attending training tomorrow in Des Moines. This is a one day training – 5 hours on how do the EIP Report and making a professional development planand one hour on discourse mapping. Another training is scheduled in March. They are trying to setup math and another skills area, but haven’t heard back from trainers yet. Instructor is from Boys Town. CEUs are offered for RID licenses. But staff could get CEUs to work toward RID. Focus of these workshops is skill development for the education of children. EIPA show discourse mapping weak as weak. Polly is taking the class.
Instructor is coming back in March to teach how to use intonations used in speech while while signing.
Patrick suggests looking at a 3-4 year professional development plan building on what is planned for this year. Mark suggests using Aver or Polycom system instead of ICN. Marsha has had trouble with Polycom. Aver is better than Polycom.
How can we help parents learn sign language? Maybe look into Aver. Susan has lots of parents asking about sign language. John stated we also have to offer something to help the people who supervisor the interpreters. Could interpreters be videotaped and then have someone watch the tape? Supervisor could videotape spontaneously. Then send to an “expert” to watch.
Patrick asked if we need to engage another person to help give another perspective to the training.
Update on professional development plans / Placement and readiness checklist – not had much time to work on. Has potential and is still in the works.
Update on HearForm implementation / Mark’s AEA was most recent one trained. Training is progressing. One third of AEAs have been trained. No back data being entered into the database. Right now data entered starts when audiologist does hearing evaluation in schools. Students on IEPs will have data entered. We will be able to do exports and matching from this database. AEAs 10 and 15 are using it right now. Roll out date is Feb. 24.
Continue operating procedures / Patrick is updating The Iowa Executive Team for Services to Students Who Are Deaf and Hard of Hearing Operating Procedures. He will send a copy to everyone tomorrow. Send suggestions to Patrick one week before December meeting. It will be reviewed at the December Meeting.
