YLG Member Commitment and Selection Process
Background
The ULI Northwest’s Oregon and SW Washington Young Leaders Group (YLG) is made up of 20young professionals from the private and public sectors involved in real estate development, architecture, marketing, finance, urban planning, transportation, construction, public policy, and more. The YLGoffers individuals under the age of 35 a variety of opportunities to become actively involved in helping shape the region’s conversation in land use planning and development. The YLG plans events and sets priorities for local YLG activities in the Portland & Vancouver, WA metropolitan regions. There are no term limits for YLG members; however, members graduate out of YLG positions when they turn 35.
Requirements and Commitment
- Must be a member of ULI
- Must be under 35
- Attend all monthly planning meetings
- Notify Co-Chairs if you cannot make a meeting; 3 or more unexcused absences may result in dismissal from Committee
- Meaningful participation on at least one sub-committee or event per year (e.g. membership, sponsorship, programs, etc.)
- Meaningful participation in planning the Cascadia Regional Conference in years when Portland is host city.
Selection Process
As positions become available on the YLG the group will follow the selection process outlined below to select new members. The YLG values diversity in its leadership and seeks to achieve a well-balancedgroup when selecting new members.
- Post information and application on ULI Northwest website.
- Solicit suggestions from current and outgoing YLG members.
- Review list of current YLG members for candidates who have shown regular interest and participation in YLG programs.
- Review current group for gaps in diversity and seek nominations for candidates that fulfill these gaps.
- Review list of current Annual Sponsors for candidates that can help fill gaps in diversity.
- Current members will review applications and make selections by consensus whenever possible. If consensus cannot be reached, final decision will be made by Co-Chairs and ULI Staff.
