Objectives: The World Cultures curriculum is designed to expand the students’ knowledge of ancient civilizations and their connections to and influence on people currently living in the 21st century. What follows is simply a brief listing of topics that will be covered throughout this course:

River Valley Civilizations—Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China

Ideas and Armies—the Phoenicians, Hebrews, Assyrians, Persians

v  The Greeks—City-States of Sparta and Athens, Olympics, Theater, Philosophy

v  The Romans—the Roman Republic, the Roman Empire, Roman Legacy

v  The Middle Ages—the Franks, Vikings, Byzantines, Arabs, Feudal Societies

Materials:

Students are expected to be prepared for class each day by bringing the following:

·  Pens or Pencils

·  Assignment Book

·  Binder/Notebook

*It is not necessary to bring textbook class daily —copies are in the classroom, but students may be provided one for reference and to keep home in a safe place

Evaluation: Students will be evaluated using the following methods:

ü  Tasks and assignments (in-class and/or to be finished at home)

ü  Projects/Project Assessments (intermittently throughout the course)

ü  Quizzes (intermittently throughout the course)

ü  Assessments/Tests (students will receive study guides in order to prepare)

Reminders: It is in each student’s best interest to:

Be prepared for class each day, participate during the class activities, complete all assignments neatly and on time, maintain an organized binder with updated contents and pages in order, and study all materials prior to any test.

Stay up-to-date by writing assignments in assignment book regularly, checking assignments as well as grades on-line (campus).

Conduct yourself appropriately and follow the ARROWS, policies, and guidelines of the Susquehanna Township School District.

4.  Scroll down to view the teachers’ names. Find my name and click.

5.  Once there, the World Cultures Calendar is on the left.

6.  Finally, you can look over the calendar for any updates and/or previews.
