Rising Fifth Grade
Summer Reading List
Joppa Elementary
An important goal of the reading program at Joppa School is to develop lifelong readers who read for enjoyment, understanding, and information. To accomplish this goal, students must have ample opportunity to read good literature both in school and at home. In the intermediate grades, acquiring essential reading skills is important but is only part of the total reading program. The other part involves the enjoyable application of these skills through independent reading.
The following list of books is divided into two categories. The first is a list of books that may be taught by Mrs. Gowan during fifth grade ELA. The second is a list of books we recommend students read when assigned independent reading. These books are excellent choices for students when they are looking for a good book to read.
Happy Reading!
Summer Reading Survey
Tell us what you think about the books you read this summer. Complete the summer reading survey (using 1 of the books you read) then turn it into Mrs. Gowan by the end of the second week of school. You will receive EXTRA CREDIT. All of your responses about the book must provide enough detail to show that you really read it. Use the back of the paper if you need more room to write your responses.
