This program places high school (and college) students on teams in communities to engage in community service and experiential learning during their summer, winter and spring breaks. Students perform short-term projects for community agencies and learn about issues such as literacy, poverty, racism, hunger, homelessness, and the environment. Examples of trips students have organized are: tutoring migrant workers in FL, registering voters in MS, and working with the homeless in Washington, DC.

Located in the OldFirehouseTeenCenter, this program is structured and supervised and includes tutoring, community service projects, bowling, indoor swimming, Build-A-Bear, movie, 2 off-site trips each week, and more. The Old Firehouse has a set of textbooks from both Longfellow and CooperMiddle Schools which it keeps on site. Student attending other schools or who are home-schooled are welcome, but transportation will not be provided. This program does not meet when Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) are closed or have early release (Center will have drop-in hours from 8-6).
LongfellowMiddle School Program
Teens enjoy a daily snack, homework help, gym, field games and other structured activities.
Community Service Tuesdays
Supervised after-school program for students who attend Longfellow and Cooper middle schools. Daily snack, followed by community service project.
When the project is complete, opportunity to play games, use computers, complete homework, and socialize. Transportation is available on a first-come, first-services basis for Longfellow and Cooper students only.
School’s Out Program
When FCPS are closed for work days, the Firehouse is open 8:00-6:00 for cool day trips. Fees for some trips.
Drop-In Program
Youth can play pool, fooseball, do homework, socialize or play video games. Transportation is not provided.
Happy Hats Program
This program runs Thursdays from 3:30-5:30. Participants make hats for children in the DC area who have lost their hair due to illness. A snack will be provided. No transportation. Program will not meet when FCPS is closed or have early release days.
